The last leg of the 2014 / 2015 HSBC Sevens World Series took place in London England this Saturday and Sunday 16 and 17 May 2015 from 09:00 BST (10:00 SA Time) both days.
All the action was broadcast LIVE on SuperSport 6 on Saturday and on SuperSport 1 (Sunday) on TV in South Africa.
After 8 Rounds of the HSBC Sevens World Series, Fiji, South Africa and New Zealand battled it out for the 16th World Series title in London.
Following their victory at the Glasgow Sevens last weekend, Fiji headed into the 9th and Final Round of the Series in 1st spot – with Ben Ryan’s side aiming to win their 1st Series title since 2006.
Not since 2010 has a side other than New Zealand won it, but with Fiji on 147 points and South Africa on 142 prior to this tournament, the 4-time defending champions had their work cut out to win a 13th World Series title as they sat 3rd on 139 Log Points, prior to this tournament.
New Zealand fell out of the race for the ultimate World Series title when England beat them in the quarter-final and the same fate befell South Africa’s Blitzbokke as they persihed against Fiji by 7 / 19 in the quarter-finals in London, the same fate which befell them in Glasgow.
Having led the Series since Round 2 the BlitzBokke failed to make the Cup semi-finals for the 1st time all season in Glasgow and now again in London.
Fiji, who overtook South Africa for the 1st time since before Dubai at Glasgow, was joined by Samoa, Canada and Argentina in Pool A and fielded an unchanged squad from that win.
All 3 Top sides have cemented their place for Sevens’ debut in the Olympic Games next year. By qualifying for the semi-finals in London, England has also cemented their spot for the Olympics, effectively shutting out Australia who was next in line.
As a result of Fiji beating South Africa in the quarter-final they are the new HSBC Sevens World Series champions for the 2014 / 2015 season, no matter what happens in the remaining games.
All that remains now is to see who goes on to win the London Sevens title.
Fiji claimed 3rd spot, by beating England by 26 / 12.
The Final was contested by unlikely candidates United States and Australia, with the United States Claiming the Final Cup honours, by 45 / 22.

@ grootblousmile:
Sokker is hopeloos. So ja, maar net rugby wat uitstasn in SA….dis hoekom ons politici so mal is daaroor, en nie juis traak oor sokker nie!!
Consolation for Aus… bu there is time left
USA 38 / 24 Aus
USA puts the final nail in…
USA 45 / 22 Aus
Palamo 120 kg, met al daai spoed! Onkeerbaar!
Final Score: United States 45 / 22 Australia
Well done USA!!!
I @ grootblousmile:
Ja, kom ons rus eers bietjie, tjeers!
About two years ago Mike Friday and Chris Brown coached Kenya to there best ever results in sevens.
Then they were sacked and replaced by Paul Treu.
Now they are coaching the USA.
What a joke!

Onthou Mike Friday is slegs deeltyds by die VSA betrokke.
71 @ robzim:
Dit was ek, my oorle Pa (GBS Maksimus), my ouer broer (voor sy bikeongeluk – nou is hy “Kruppelbroer”), my Oom Sakkie, my neef At (ook ‘n geregistreerde blogger hier), my neef Jurie, my neef Basie, 2 van my Pa en Oom se neefs – Oom Apie (vir Nortie en sy vrou se onthalwe – dit was Arra se pa) en Oom Francois (2 moerse stoute omies).
My Pa was spankaptein!
My Pa was Mampoerspankaptein ook!
PS! Ons was nie CHOKERS nie!
@ grootblousmile:
@ grootblousmile:
@ grootblousmile:
Wow, dis indrukwekkend , lol..
Bok-bok was nogal rof, gewoonlik geindig in ‘n bakleiery of rugbeserings….
Nou kyk DIT was ‘n rowwe game!
@ robzim:
Bokbok was rof ja! veral as daai dik ouens op jou spring….
Nee kyk, as ons nou al oor hierdie sportsoorte op n rugbysite begin praat na n Saterdag se rugby, dan moet jou weet daar is probleme in SA rugby hehehe!
Ek moet waai, sien julle teen die naweek by die rugby, mooi loop eerfs.
Bok-bok staan styf, hoeveel vingers op jou lyf… hahaha
Janee, dit was lekker tye!
OK, ek is uit, manne… sal more rugbynuus opsit!
@ grootblousmile:
@ Pietman:
Baby Boks beat Pumitos, don’t know if it had been mentioned here earlier.
Final Score: Argentina U20s 28/39 South Africa U20s.
The score at half time was 25/9 in favour of the Baby Boks who scored 3 tries (2 converted) and 2 penalties to 3 penalties by Pumitas.
Pumitas must have come back strongly in the second half outscoring the Baby Boks – 19/14 getting 3 tries (2 converted) to the Baby Boks 2 converted tries.
Points scorers for the Baby Boks:
Tries- Hanro Liebenberg (1), Jan vd Merwe (2), Leolin Zas (1), Joseph Dweba (1)
Conversion- Brandon Thompson (4)
Penalties- Brandon Thompson (2)
Clive Woodward new France coach after the World Cup, maybe. On a short list of candidates it has been reported, don’t see Jake White’s name in the hat but his predecessor at Montpellier Fabian Galthie’s name is.
