@ grootblousmile: In Dec I joined a few Wes Kus manne and we drove from just short of the Namibia border south along the beach as far as we were allowed to go crashing under the stars. I’m now doing the East Coast from Sodwana (an hour from Mocambique border) all along the coast to same CT. I’ve cris-crossed the Karoo many times and rarely tire of same. Latest trip I/we overnighted at Nieu Bethesda of Owl House fame. What a gem and the Afrikaaner hospitality was up there with the best. You gotta love this country.

@ grootblousmile: n lekker Sauv Blanc from Spier boet. I have to drink the whole bottle because the left-over would likely visit a drain and that would be criminal and the winemaker would be pissed off I’m sure.

For vaaark steaks, there goes the lights!
GBS, keep us Capies informed please bruvva…. Angry

damn these Indian girls are cute. Constant traffic past the table, which is probably why I’m sitting here in the first place. 😀

    66 @ Tassies:
    Brilliant country!!

I’ve been up at Kosi Bay, past Sodwana, Cape Vidal, all the way down the coast… through Transkei, through the Eastern Cape… all the way down to the Mother City and then not too far up the West Coast.

Been everywhere in Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North-West, Northern Cape, Gauteng, Free State (including the beautiful Eastern Free State Highlands… illegally into Lesotho for a couple of pictures, the whole Western and Southern Cape

  • 71

    2nd Half ON!

Tryyyyyyyyyyy Shimlas, No 13 Nico Lee!

  • 72

@ grootblousmile: what’s your view on William Small-Smith GB?
He’s been around a bit(still young) and has leadership potential but is he the real deal(IYHO)?

  • 73

    Shimlas 34 / 20 Pukke

  • 74

    @ Tassies:
Helen Martins’ place, the Owl Lady…in Nieu Bethesda.
Pretty little spot that, one of my favourite Karoo towns. Try the brewery and Sneeuberg Beer there, and the cheese Delicious

  • 75

    72 @ Tassies:
I am a bit undecided on him… has massive potential and I really think he is way better than JJ Engelbrecht (who disappoints me hugely).

Has had a telling number of injuries though and I personally think not enough chances in the senior side.

  • 76

Pukke penalty off a strong scrum, they kick the ball right into the corner

  • 77

@ grootblousmile: well then you are like me. I like nothing more than to load up the truck and check out the landscape & wonderful people of this land of ours. Sure, there’s some crap but that’s usually confined to the cities.

  • 78

Another Pukke penalty, 5m out, No 1 of Shimlas on a warning

  • 79

    77 @ Tassies:
I like driving too… like to see new country as I drive… best time to think

  • 80

@ grootblousmile: Thanks for that. JJ has been a disappointment after a semi-promising start. We thought we’d lost a gem but them we discovered the diamond was a glass replica.

  • 81

    Try Jeandre Rudolph, Pukke cappie

  • 82

    Shimlas 34 / 25 Pukke

  • 83

Pukke is definately not going to go quietly into the night… or die wondering.

Kick too far and dead by Welthagen

  • 84

Shimlas scrum penalty on halfway… great touchfinder

  • 85

Try Nico Lee again, knive through butter again in midfield… excellent line he ran

  • 86

    Shimlas 42 / 25 Pukke

  • 87

Demmit, darem kuk so in die donkerte, ek hoor net die see in die duisternis ….gaan maar rooiwyn skink….

  • 88

@ Pietman: Jeez, Piet, trust you to prick my bubble. 🙂
Yes, what a fabulous plekkie. I could easily stay a week. Mrs and I were charmed by the place for sure. Unfortunately we had to miss out on the pampoen festival but that didn’t stop me buying a specimen for the folk in Joburg.
It was converted into a great cinnamon pumpkin pie for good measure. All washed down with a Cape SB naturally and some protein of course.
where are you stationed now Piet?

  • 89

Farkit, this Daniel Maartens of Shimlas is electric…

    Welthagen off subbed by Briers
