Bismarck du Plessis

Bismarck du Plessis

The Cell C Harks website reports that Bismarck du Plessis returns to the Cell C Sharks this weekend after serving a period of time away from the game, but, by his own noble request, will not be selected as captain for the match against the Highlanders.

“The situation is this,” explains Director of Rugby Gary Gold: “Bismarck has shown incredible humility about his personal situation over the past month and he feels that he just wants to get back into the Cell C Sharks team and make as big an impact as he can.

“It’s unbelievably noble of him to have this attitude. Marco Wentzel has done a good job and he will retain the captaincy.”

Gold admits how thoroughly impressed he has been with du Plessis’s attitude since returning to the side, saying, “He’s positive and eager to contribute to the success of the team and turning our fortunes around. He is committed to doing everything he can to make a constructive difference.

“We have been really impressed by Bismarck’s attitude, he’s come into the team, he wants to prove his worth and play well for The Sharks again. Relinquishing the captaincy is a move that has been driven by him, a commendable gesture to ensure continuity, and an act that has drawn great admiration from the coaching staff as well as players around him.

“Ultimately, he has chosen team over individual and this speaks volumes about the character of the player.”

Gold adds that with du Plessis wanting to play well, the coaching staff will back his selection to give him that opportunity.

He is an outstanding player and his influence on the field can never be underestimated. He is a leader and will only ever be seen as one in the Cell C Sharks set-up.

“As far as I’m concerned, what’s happened has happened, he’s paid the price and we must move on from the incident now.

“We cannot forget the massive contribution he has made to Sharks Rugby and will continue to make going forward.”

It is the right decision… but I also think it’ll take MORE than just the captaincy issue to fix what is wrong in the Sharks camp.

Their desperation at this stage will also be a positive factor, but they are playing the Highlanders, who are’nt shabby at all this season.

Howzit GB. Yes I agree. Thank f he’s taken this attitude. Man’s maturing beyond the credit I gave him. Big respect and a good omen for the Sharks I believe. He’s still a very important leader in the side and the new captain is going to need his backing. I don’t wish ill on the Sharks. Never have. I simply back the other SA franchises first.

I call bullshit on this story.

Personally I believe he was fired as captain and Gary Glitter is just doing his spin doctoring best to help him save face.

I never thought i would see the day that the words “humble” and “noble” preceded the words “Bismarck”

This is a guy who openly disrespected SA’s most successful captain in John Smit, so I’m sure he will show huge amounts of respect to some fellow called Marco Wentzel…..yeah, right.

    BisMARCH?

Why,because he always MARCH off the field after being carded? 😛

He’s not enjoying his rugby and he’s been like that for the past couple of years
It’s a shame he couldn’t have rested for a year in 2014, and to decide if he really wanted to do it anymore

    @ nortie:
It may be bullshit and I doubt anyone would be naive enough to believe it was 100% bismarcks choice… but REGARDLESS it is a step in the right direction for the Sharks, the next step is for Lambie to take over the captaincy.

  • 15

    14 @ MacroBull:
We have all been asking for Lambie to take over the captaincy, yet the games he did captain, they weren’t to flash, even losing Deysel in the one game.
It is better for them to pos Bissie, I just don’t like all the crap Gold is spewing every time he opens his mouth.
Maybe he is looking for a job as Zuma’s spin doctor now that his previous one has retired?
He has the credentials….talks a lot of crap and is used to dealing with shit, at least since he joined the Guppies

  • 16

    @ nortie:
There is no point in making a huge massive deal over it. All of our coaches talk shit from time to time and Gold is no different from AC and Fludeke.

The point is that this had to happen, and the Sharks managed to do so in a civilized and organized manner regardless of conspiracy theories.
