Emirates Lions coach Johan Ackermann is pleased with the physical condition of his players after 9 Rounds of Super Rugby action.

The Lions have won 5 of 9 matches this season and sit 7th on the overall standings.

The men from Johannesburg have a welcome BYE this week, with their next match at home against the Toyota Cheetahs on 25 April.

After 9 consecutive games, they only have a few injuries, which leaves Ackermann a happy camper.

“We’re very lucky,” he said. “During the off season, we thought long and hard about how we’re going to manage the players and thusfar we’ve done well in that regard.”

Utility back Jaco van der Walt (broken jaw) is the only long-term casualty on the injury front.

Wings Courtnall Skosan and Sampie Mastriet (ankle injuries) are expected to recover by next week, while lock Martin Muller (calf) and prop Schalk van der Merwe (flu) will come into consideration for the Lions’ next game.
