Victor Matfield

Victor Matfield

The Vodacom Bulls will get a number of Springboks back this week, but there is growing concern over the knee injury of veteran lock Victor Matfield.

Matfield will only know on Tuesday when he will play again.

He was originally listed as being ‘rested’ for the encounter with the Lions last week, but it has since emerged that the knee injury was the real problem.

It appears to be a major concern for the Bulls management.

The lock, who has a meniscal knee strain, will see knee specialist Dr Daan du Plessis to determine how long he will be out of action.

    @ gunther:
You should easily win two of the tour games….not such difficult opposition for the Bulls.
That should be enough to secure top spot.
Top spot for a SAFFA team only means one side has one extra game to go overseas and get a hiding.

    I feel for you guys.
My boy Scarra is having a beast of a season.

He is indeed. Pushing hard for a Bok spot up Norf’ if he keeps this up…..

    @ gunther:
If they play like they did against the Crusaders and Pollard is back, they should secure a win with 4 tries against the Reds.

Maybe we can tack it onto last year’s enquiry ?
…” Former Test referee Jonathan Kaplan says the Stormers have a right to be upset with the officiating in Wellington last Saturday.
The Stormers found themselves trailing 25-3 at half-time after conceding three controversial tries, and went on to lose 25-20.
‘All three Canes tries had huge question marks over them – knock on, forward pass and illegal steal,’ wrote Kaplan on ratetheref.co.za. ‘All three decisions went in favour of the home team. At half-time the game was done.
‘I do not believe the referee [Rohan Hoffmann] deliberately set out to have a poor day, but the consequence of this was a blow out in score, with absolutely no recourse for the victims,’ Kaplan added. ‘It’s not great to be apologising in running as this does little to offset the frustration of the multitude of decisions that appeared to the players to be going against them….”

At least Kaplan came running with a towel in hand
    ohhhh
    couldnt resist

It’s a pity he wasn’t fairer when it counted back in the day……..

    Actually I tell a lie.

What does annoy me is that the bulls have a comparatively soft away tour its a shame we didn’t win more home games then we might have been in the running. Probably not though because there is just too much dead wood there.

I think so too, we would have needed a considerable lead before our tour to be competitive, Pollard will also get in a week or two rest wriggled in there somewhere then we wont even score tries either.

    @ Stormersboy:

    I think so.

Tough being a ref in the modern game, more camera angled, higher definition and more fps in replays. Much easier to judge than to be perfect.

Odds are Kaplan would have got some of those call wrong as well.

    angles*

The line judges need to be more involved. Also the try needed to be called back to the ruck only 1 phase before that to check the illegal steal.

The technology is there but it is used so inconsistently, and even then, poorly.

The Hollywood act by JLP that won him an best actor award for his role in “My cruciate ligament, my cruciate ligament….my kingdom for a cruciate ligament” certainly didn’t go against the Bulls.

He was clutching one leg (left?) on the ground, once he got up it was the other,

If anything he should have clutched the family jewels, the tacklers arm must have caught him in the centre

He deserves Dirty Deysel’s knee in the neck for diving

Scarra put in a lot of work over the off season he deserves it Strauss is nowhere.

Bissie’s banned, Vanilla Gorilla is (not?) getting over his divorce, he’s the only one left

Scarra should be a shoe in
Competing with Bongi for a spot really lifted his game

  • 44

    @ Victoriabok:

Exactly a lot of people thought Bongi would put in the shade but that’s not happened at all.

I see that Gunther has become a big fan of Scarra.

Didn’t sound that way when AC dropped him to the bench for our 2nd game, due to his rotational policy, and started our Bulls import at hooker. Glad that Scarra could convince some people with his performances on the field to change their mind about him. Wink

I had high hopes for Bongi but his line out work has been poor, reminiscent of a previous “hooker” from not so long ago.

Scarra ‘s consistency has been great to see.

Another brilliant move by the Bulls not contracting Bongi but keeping Callie

Callie who can’t get a ball to Victor in a lineout, even with a guide dog and a white cane?

How hard can it be, after all Victor manages to get the ball on the other team’s throw in without even knowing their lineout signals

  • 50

    @ Stormersboy:
Most SA hookers’ line out work has been crap the last few seasons to be honest not least our own CC winning captain. (youknowwho) Wink

I don’t rater the current Sharks hooker, I preferred the one now playing for Toulon

He’s a different player this year, his form reminds me of Bissie in 2013

    Einste. 😆

  • 56

    @ Victoriabok:
He probably gets his confidence from the fact that he now knows that he is seen as the no. 1 hooker of the team. In years past he also had to content with Fourie (no. 1) and Liebenberg.

  • 57

Seeing that the Shark supporters are looking for a replacement for Gold, maybe they should consider someone who is also currently looking for a job as coach again?

Apparently his new job isn’t as much fun……

    Hahaha…

Seeing that Smit is giving all his previous coaches a job, maybe he should look at The Coach as well. After all, The Coach did extend his test career by 4 years. Time for pay back, ekse. 😉

He struggled with injuries as well if I recall correctly
