Springbok coach, Heyneke Meyer, has announced 2 sets of 44 players to participate in training camps in May and June in Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively.

The squads include a total of 19 uncapped players, including rising stars Jesse Kriel, Vincent Koch, Cheslin Kolbe and Bongi Mbonami.

Players that are currently injured but invited include Heinrich Brüssow, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Jean de Villiers and Pat Lambie.

Suspended Sharks player Frans Steyn was not invited due to not making himself available to play for the Springboks.

While no overseas based players were considered for the training camps the greater squad gives good idea of who is on Meyers radar for the upcoming inbound Tests and later in the year the Rugby World Cup.

The 1st training camp will take place on 3 – 6 May and will not feature any Cell C Sharks players due to touring commitments. The 2nd training camp will not include any Vodacom Bulls players and will run from 31 May to 3 June.

    @ MacroBull:
“Jj was the most dangerous attacking center in the country with a strike rate that put other centers to shame.”

    You’re joking, right? Pondering

OK, he once scored 4 tries in 4 matches against Italy, Scotland, Samoa and Argentina in 2013. But all those games turned out to be fairly big wins for the Boks so you would expect our backs to score some tries. But guess what, those were the only 4 tries he scored in his 20 tests.

Not at any stage of his career was he the most dangerous attacking center in the country. Not by a long shot.

But as you say, he should not be part of the discussion. Approve

    @ Tassies:
Well i feel bad for the sharks. With a sixth franchise putting even more pressure on the player pool, right now is a terrible time for a union to be in a rebuilding phase. The sharks will have to pull finger.

    @ Nama:
By far the form center from sa on attack in superrugby in 2013.

  • 34

In 2014-2015 the worst center in the competition

  • 35

Egon Seconds is a referee now? See he is refereeing a game at the varsity 7’s.

  • 36

    @ MacroBull:
In 2012 Ebersohn was the best centre in SA.
In 2013-14 JdJ was the best centre.
In 2015 Mapoe is the best centre.

JJ does not feature. He was crap then, he is crap now…AT CENTRE.

    @ Nama:
Thats your opinion. Jdj was nowhere in 2013.

@ Tassies: speaking of World Cups, my mate and I had planned(long ago) to follow up on 2011’s fun in Kiwi and do the 2015 in Pomland. But it is simply too expensive and frankly not worth the money. Watching Aussies, Kiwis and Poms lash out R70 a pop for an ordinary lager over here on the island, one quickly gets to understand that we’re at a completely different level working with our readjusted exchange rate. For example: a kid working as a secretary for an assistant bank manager in Sydney would probably earn around A$5000/mth. Thats R50k/mth in our language. Probably with little by way of commitments he/she can get ratarsed here in HK and afford as many beers at R70/pop as he/she likes and still have something leftover to bonk a local professional. And those are the ‘cheap’ entry level beers. This morning I saw a one bedroomed flat advertised for around R14m. Take that sunshine.

@ MacroBull: nope. I disagree. The fish rots from the head remember. But you’re right. That’s a whole nuther topic.

    @ Tassies:
I think scrumdown tried getting tickets for pomland andb The prices are just too insane.

    @ Nama:
my opinion for what its worth:
In 2012 I’d have chalked JdV down as our best centre
2013 probably the same as above
last year I’d probably have given it to him too
and this year its definitely Damian dA. Without a shadow of a doubt.
We can argue about Jean(because I’m biased) but on DdA you don’t stand a chance.

  • 42

    @ MacroBull:
Strange that you have now changed your tune.

Last year we had a conversation about the centres and I made the comment that JdJ had been the best centre in the country for the last three years ie 2012-2014. You then corrected me and said that Ebersohn was in fact better than JdJ in 2012 and that you would agree that he (JdJ) was the best the last two years ie 2013-2014.

Now you’ve changed your mind, I see.

Of course, everybody is entitled to change his/her opinion. No problem. Wink

    41 @ Tassies:
Only PW players? they must be scoring tons of tries 😛

anyway I am out to enjoy whats left of the weekend, see you guys later.

  • 44

@ MacroBull: I read 3 grand a game and that does not include the one’s we’d prefer to watch. No sanity in that. I’d rather sit behind a bottle of decent Cape sauv with my mates at our local, than prop up the Pom economy thanks.

  • 45

    @ Tassies:
I was actually only concentrating on the outside centres where JJ used to play for the Boks.

No doubt that DDA is the best inside centre in the country. Not even an ardent Bull supporter like Macro will argue against the fact that DDA had been far superior than Janneman at inside centre this year.

  • 46

@ MacroBull: cheers bud. I had forgotten its a public holiday back home.

  • 47

    42 @ Nama:
not at all, i said JDJ was the best center last year.

You seem to be using that “entitlement” liberally 😉

I think the thing is you cant buy tickets anymore, you need to buy a whole package deal.

  • 49

    @ Nama:
Sad thing is that DDA will likely not get any rest this year and could well be quite fatigued when that actual tests start.

  • 50

@ Nama: aah. Now it makes sense. For me its Jean and Juan for the Bok midfield pairing. Janneman and DDA on the bench or visa versa depending on who we’re playing and the strategy on the day. We lose nothing with either pairing. Pollard and Lambie can both play 12 and Lambie covers for FB. Mapoe can cover wing and 13.
I’m happy with the above. We wont suck hind tit to too many top backlines I’m certain. Our forwards will also do the job.

  • 51

    @ MacroBull:
There’s that selective memory at play again.

    “Post 36

Again with that comprehension problem of yours? Read again. Wink

  • 52

@ MacroBull: for the main menu yes. I suspect one can still buy for the individual pool games. And they also cost a bomb.

  • 53

@ MacroBull: Probably but at least he’s a back and not one of the packhorses up front. Those are the guys who really need protection. Its the potential for injuries to the backs that’s the primary concern.

  • 54

@ Nama: you guys love to argue over semantics. No?

  • 55

    @ MacroBull:
Yeah, that can be a problem. Also the fact that we only play a single round of RC matches means that you can’t really nominate matches to rest him. Unless, HM goes Janneman / Mapoe or De Jongh and rest DDA for two of the tests before the RWC.

In all likelihood, he’ll probably go DDA/Janneman as things stand now. What’s your view?
