That’s me out for Varsity Cup Monday!

Tomorrow morning the Proteas take on Ireland in the Cricket World Cup….

    Goeie nag, slaap sag!

  • 67

After this WC Faf might just start specializing as an opening batsman…..

  • 68

    @ nortie:
Hehe might as well. Gosh captain, kit designer and opener.

  • 69

    @ MacroBull:
Being nr 3 in the Protea batting line up is just another way of saying “Quinton, I’m still doing up my pads, go down to the pitch with Hash so long, I’ll be there in a minute”

  • 70

    @ MacroBull:
Can there be anything worse in cricket than losing your wicket against an Irishmen wearing a “neon green 1980’s Bjorn Borg type sweatband” 😆

  • 71

    @ nortie:
Haha yes. Losing a wicket to Afridi is the worst.

  • 72

    @ nortie:
Amla has really been pushing his luck.

  • 73

    @ nortie:
Dunno whats wrong with quinton. He was motm in the warmup against Lanka. Though i still think we should persevere.

  • 74

    @ MacroBull:
Maybe it’s not his fault, you know it might just be a curse on left handed openers in the WC…..isn’t McCulum also a LH opener? Ok, scrap that thought 😆 must be just him

  • 75

    73 @ MacroBull:
Sentiment doesn’t win you trophies…..move him down to 7-8 and keep him in the side as keeper

  • 76

    @ nortie:
its not about sentiment, i just believe that d kock is an x factor matchwinner, if he can make one good score at the knockouts then he did his job at this world cup for South Africa, while Rilee played a phenomenal knock against the windies (after Amla and Faf removed almost all the pressure) He does not instill that same confidence.

QdK is a matchwinnder, and we have seen over the last few years averages and form mean nothing to any south african team in knockouts, whether it is Amla or the minnow basher… at that stage we need to go on instinct and rely on what players are capable of.

  • 77

Averages does not win you trophies either… well at least not for us.

  • 78

This looks terrible for the Irish

  • 79

    76 @ MacroBull:
I don’t agree. 1 good knock from an opener once in a while is not doing your job…..that’s why I said he is becoming like a Gayle, and that comment didn’t go down well.
An opener who can give you 1 good knock in the WC is a liability, not an asset.

  • 80

    @ nortie:
Sure but the Windies won the T20 world cup recently as well as well as the CT 2004…

So they have have average players with 1 good knock in a while… but they win trophies.

    Do we?

  • 81

    @ nortie:
If we were 4 games into a 7 match odi series, id move de kock down… but we NEVER gammble at the world cup. I think it is about time we try.

  • 82

Amla fastest to 20 ODI hundreds Approve

  • 83

hehe Amla scores 27 of one over… This is feeeeeeding my superbru

  • 84

Well done Faf, but leave now 😈

  • 85

Gosh I really hope Amla can get another 60 runs

  • 86

    50 left

  • 87

42 to get, geez Amla wow

  • 88

Amla “only” got 150… how ridiculous is this guy? scores 20 ODI hundreds in 108 innings, 67 innings less than AB and 25 innings less than the previous fastest, Virat Kohli.

  • 89

88.. and all of them still did it faster than Tendulkar who had to wait 197 innings.

  • 90

    Very good article
(If one considers the underlying principles, viz. the good of the game vs money only, short term-ism vs long term-ism, exclusivity vs inclusiveness, etc., perhaps some food for thought for SA rugby as well?)
