Mallet en Divan sê Kolbe moet gaan skrummie speel, vraag is, kan jy hom nou in die diep kant ingooi in ‘n nuwe posisie, of moes dit al lankal gedoen gewees het ?

    Great batting from AUS.

It looks like the ICCWC QFs will likely be:

March 18 – SCG, Sydney – South Africa vs. Sri Lanka
March 19 – MCG, Melbourne – India vs. England (perhaps Bangladesh)
March 20 – Adelaide Oval, Adelaide – Australia vs. Pakistan
March 21 – Westpac Stadium, Wellington – New Zealand vs. West Indies (perhaps Ireland)

Must say I prefer for the Proteas a SCG QF vs. Sri Lanka rather than an Adelaide QF vs. Australia. However, SL with 3 spinners (Herath, Senanayake, Dishan) & seamers, Malinga, Kulasekara (or Lakmal) & Matthews will be very testy for the Proteas at the SCG.

India, New Zealand & Australia are shoe-ins for the semis.

What a mixed bag of sport successes this weekend. Congratulations to the Lions, Bulls and Stormers for comprehensive wins, each team making sound statements of intent. The Lions showed huge courage to win the game when all thought things were lost. I enjoy their never say die attitude. The Bulls were fantastic as well. What a difference a win does to the team dynamics. Jesse Kriel is one for the future. Pollard also had a great game. The Stormers too have made a statement in the early stages of the competition and let me make it clear, early stages. This competition is very long and things can go pear shaped pretty quickly as well. I don’t think I have ever seen a pack so dominant as the Stormers pack was yesterday. They steam rolled the sorry Sharks pack. In my opinion the Sharks have too many players with HUGE egos which have a negative effect on the team dynamics. Players come back and ‘on name’ walk back into the team. I for one am so pleased Frans is nowhere near the Bok team. You can see by his attitude that he only thinks of himself and thinks he is better than he actually is. He is nowhere near the player he was when he came onto the scene. Damien made the Sharks centres look pretty ordinary all night and Cheslin sliced through the Sharks defence like a hot knife through butter. Personally I think the time has come for the Sharks to make bold decisions. Some players are playing on their reputations and not on form. Bismark is not a captain and all teams are now aware of how to play him. Work him up and he is neutralised. The Sharks need a coach who will take control and get rid of any prima donna in the side and select the players on merit not on reputation. You can buy as many stars as you want, but if they don’t play for each other and as a team they will be beaten 9 times out of 10. With all this said I do believe the Sharks will come back but need to stop blaming refs, linesmen and decisions on their poor performances. The fact is they didn’t deserve to win against the Cheetahs, Bulls as well as against the Stormers.

Our cricket team is also going to struggle in the knock out stages and as things look now we will all be very disappointed again. It is our team and we need to support them, but by continuing playing an out of form De Kock at the top of the innings is putting the team on the back foot from ball one. He need to become an impact player at 7 at best. Push Riley to open as well. Our tail is very long, but our top order needs to make runs not the tail. It looks like we might play the Ozzies or Black Caps in the quarters – either way it is going to be very tough with a lot of luck going our way.

Next week the Chiefs – going to be a humdinger…

    Enjoy your Sunday chaps…

Glenn Maxwell looking like Aussies AB, 102 off 53 balls in Aus 376/9 off their 50 overs against Sri Lanka. Australia looking like the danger team for this World Cup

  • 222

Congratulations Brokies, only one team in it in that second half.

You’re looking good “up there” but a couple of bonus points sure wouldn’t go amiss.

And excellent post, Gumboots, FS should go play for Montpellier.

  • 223

    Yoh.

I’m at the SCG for this one and the Lankans are going bos.

  • 224

    218 @ Gumboots:
Depending on the outcome of Aus v Sri Lanka, I guess we will be playing the loser of this game in the QF.

    Who would we rather play?

Aus thumped us in the last ODI series we played them, and won’t stand back an inch against us. Mentally they have it over us, especially in WC games.

The two games we lost so far has been against sub continent opposition, who also don’t stand back to us, so playing Sri Lanka might possibly make it 0/3.

Either way, we are not looking even remotely assured of progressing to the Semis, both those opponents are more than a match for a team with one non existent opener and the complete inability to chase a target when the pressure is on.

We can beat both of them, if Hash and AB both come off and we set a high enough target for our bowlers to defend, but whether we can do it 3 games in a row from the QF stage against decent opponents who don’t cower to us, I’m highly skeptical.

We just need to look at the record books of WC tournaments ( and ICC sanctioned tournaments for that matter )to realize that a lot must go in our favor to break the duck

Awesome….enjoy, looks like a cracking match.
I’ve never been a fan of Sangakarra, but credit must be given where it’s due, he has a wonderful record and after 402 games is still a great player.
    Respect

    @ nortie:

    Great run chase so far.

In the words of the great Kitch Christie, if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best, no matter which order they come at you.

  • 227

    @ IAAS:
    Too true.
Pity Sangakarra lost his wicket so soon after he got his ton

A big game in Pool B will be Pakistan v Ireland next Sunday. It is last of the pool matches – that match still go either way.

Also tomorrow, if England end up chasing 320 or so, we could have a match on our hands.

  • 229

    As for the Stormers.

    4 out of 4.

    Who would’ve thought.

    You lucky fish.

It’s a great cricket ground. And Sydney is a great little town. Enjoy.

Thanks Norts. Lankans fading a bit now but atmosphere is still incredible.

Not me, but couldn’t be happier.
Playing very well, let’s hope it continues and we can stay injury free, especially to key players like Duane, De Allende and Koch.
I also hope they are already working on Koch to sign on permanently when his Puma contract expires

You’re not chairman of the “glass half empty club” for nothing, you know.

    You’ve earned it. 😆

  • 235

Starc is deadly at the death….great yorkers, at speed, and with the angle of being a left hand bowler making it even more difficult to play.
Sri Lanka tried vainly, but Aus too good today.
We have our work cut out come QF time, a team that can score 300 plus chasing against the Aussies are no easy beats.

  • 236

This year is totally going to be our year!

    🙂 🙂 🙂

Who was the team that chased over 400 and beat the Aussies? 🙄

I’m sure even HG will concede that this year won’t be their year, even after they predicted it last year.

  • 239

    235 @ IAAS:
It was a Protea side who had Herchelle opening and not De Kock, and in SA and 10 years ago…..

I’m only interested in what is currently happening at the WC 😆 that’s why I don’t give a toss about stats from yesteryear to justify a player’s selection.

On current form, I’m not convinced we would have made 300 chasing this target in their backyard, but we will never know

    What a nice looking log…..
