BIG game in the PRO12 tonight; 5th placed Leinster host 1st placed Glasgow Warriors. Starting fullback Zane Kirchner will make his 40th appearance for Leinster. A lot of injuries for Glasgow Warriors and many of them seem to be in specific positions with 5 props (one of them being Rossouw de Klerk) and 3 wingers out to injury, also have a fullback a flyhalf a centre and loose forward Tyrone Holmes injured. Then there are a few players away on 7s duty for Scotland in Hong Kong, a lock out serving his suspension and a loose forward out serving a long term suspension imposed by the club for being a naughty boy.
Glasgow have still put a reasonable team out in spite of all the missing players, GO GLASGOW!
Other PRO12 game tonight sees Ruan Pienaar’s 2nd placed Ulster at home to 9th placed Cardiff Blues. Other SA players in Ulster match day squad are Louis Ludik, Rob Herring, Wian Herbst and Franco vd Merwe who are all starting, Robbie Diack is on the bench. Interesting to see Cardiff have who I think is a promising flyhalf Rhys Patchell at fullback with former Kiwi now fast tracked Welsh qualified Gareth Anscombe at flyhalf.
Would normally support Ulster as next team after the Scottish teams but it will be better for Glasgow for them to drop points tonight. GO CARDIFF!
Oh dear not good for Glasgow – flyhalf Finn Russell has pulled out of tonight’s game against Leinster, he picked up an ankle injury in training yesterday, inside centre Peter Horne shifts to flyhalf and his place is taken by Richie Vernon, Glen Bryce comes in onto the bench in Vernon’s place. Horne can kick at goal but would think Russell is the more accomplished of the two and Richie Vernon was converted from loose forward to centre but has been playing at outside centre. Hope this doesn’t disrupt things too much for us.
Interesting Gregor Townsend has gone for Richie Vernon for no 12. as Canadian flyhalf Connor Braid is on the bench for Glasgow tonight and he has also played at 12. Braid will offer a goal kicking option off the bench (although he is not the best at that), scrumhalf Henry Pyrgos has been injured for a while but is on the bench tonight and can also do the goal kicking if required.
WOW what a game of rugby, final score: Leinster 34/34 Glasgow Warriors, so that is 3 league points for both teams as they both got bonus point for tries. Glasgow will be glad that they dragged it back for the draw in the end but not happy that they blew a 20 point half time lead in the first place. As usual there was some controversy with calls going the home team’s way and a bonus point win would have been great but at least Glasgow didn’t come away empty handed.
Louis Ludik scored 2 tries for Ulster who got a bonus point win against Cardiff Blues, Ruan Pienaar got 14 points with 1 conversion and 4 penalties. Final score Ulster 34/17 Cardiff Blues. The number 34 featured prominently in the scores of tonight’s games.
Try Liam Messam, converted by Aaron Cruden!
Chiefs 14 / 6 Cheetahs
Cheetahs penalty, kickable… they go for touch.
Another one again and the Chiefs cop a team warning, 5m out!
Chiefs No 4 penalized and Yellow Carded.
Staat mucks up their lineout, and Chiefs attack
Yet another Cheetahs penalty near their own 10m line…. and they do not manage to kick out!
Such disappointing play by the Cheetahs!
Craig Joubert dishing out penalties like smarties to the Chiefs… Messam gets a talking to again and is warned his team will get more cards
8 Penalties to the Cheetahs so far, 0 for the Chiefs!
Tryyyyyyyyyyyyy Boom Prinsloo!
Crusaders 14 / 13 Cheetahs
Try completely wrongly awarded to the Cheetahs, Boom Prinsloo caught the lineout ball and the Cheetahs wanted to maul… but the Chiefs were standing off, so it would have been truck and trailor if Boom had passed back to the rest of the forwards and they had driven.
Had he kept the ball himself and just scored, it would have been OK.. no problem.
He did however give it to the rest of the forwards… and both his hands were free of the ball…. when he saw the Chiefs were not engaging the maul, he grabbed the ball back from an offside position, and romped through for the try.
It was clear as day, no doubt… no grey areas…
Penalty Cheetahs… and Tameifuna cops a Yellow Card!
Chiefs steal vital Staat ball but fumble inside their own goal area… 5m Staat scrum it is!
Chiefs get one of their sin-binned okes back, the lock!
Cynical team the Chiefs – no respect for the laws and ethos of rugby
Puts last week’s niggly contest vs the Sharks in proper perspective
Excellent Chiefs scrum…. and a knock by the Staat…. turnover scrum.
19 @ Angostura:
Yeah…. to a large degree the All Blacks play the same.
They would rather give away easy penalties, with deliberate and cynical offences close to their line, than concede a try.
I agree with you about not sticking to the ethos of the game…. it’s terribly subversive and negative stuff! But then the next moment they (or the All Blacks) play such brilliant attacking rugby, that the world absolutely forgets about the negative stuff and revere them like heros.
Staat scrum penalty… Chiefs not taking the hit…
Shot at goal it is.
Time is already long gone in the first half.
Smoking Joe misses.

Time to build something to drink… like a coffee or something… while the rest of the world still sleeps…
