The Stormers have roped in the services of very tall EP Kings lock, Armand du Preez.

Du Preez is the son of former Eastern Province Junior Springbok lock, Armand du Preez.

Du Preez jnr trained with the Stormers at the High Performance Centre in Bellville on Wednesday.

Du Preez snr was regarded as arguably one of the toughest locks of his generation. He played 85 games for EP.

At 2.05m, Armand du Preez jnr is probably the tallest lock in the Cape at the moment.

Springbok lock Andries Bekker, son of former Springbok lock Hennie Bekker, who is currently plying his trade in Japan, is 2.08m tall, whereas Eben Etzebeth listed at 2.03m.

The 21-year old Du Preez, who represented the SA Academy side, might still have a role to play at the Stormers.

The Stormers is currently experiencing a crisis in the lock position before the Super Rugby season has even started.

The Cape franchise will be missing stalwarts like Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth and Argentinian lock Manuel Carizza when they kick off their Super Rugby campaign against the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday (19:10 SA Time).

Promising lock forward Gerbrandt Grobler tested positive for a banned substance, and was subsequently suspended for 2 years.

Last week former Lions lock, Chris van Zyl, brother of former WP captain Anton van Zyl, played for the Stormers in a pre-season friendly at the Cape Town Stadium, against the Boland Cavalliers.
