Cyclone Marcia could force only the 2nd abandoned match in Super Rugby history, with the Round 2 clash between the Reds and Western Force in major doubt as heavy wind and torrential rain batters Brisbane.
Should the match be abandoned, the game will be deemed a draw, with both the Reds and Force to collect 2 competition points each.
Officials from SANZAR, the ARU and both teams were locked in deep discussion on Friday, planning possible contingencies if the category 3 storm continues to cause havoc in the city.
Already, the A-League clash between Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory scheduled for Friday has been postponed until next week, while the Brisbane Racing Club has suspended all action for Saturday, and the cricket World Cup match between Australia and Bangladesh is highly unlikely to proceed.
If conditions are unsafe to play on Saturday, officials will consider moving the game to Ballymore on Sunday.
A Foo Fighters concert at Suncorp Stadium next Tuesday means the game cannot be played there on Sunday because organisers will be setting up the stage and doing sound-checks in preparation for the event.
However, if Cyclone Marcia continues its destructive path into Sunday, organisers could be forced to scrap the match altogether.
An already jammed calendar means the match could not be replayed at a later date.
The Reds have already suffered disruption to their preparation after fullback Karmichael Hunt was served a Criminal Court Notice and possibly charged with drug supply.

Cool, Australia / Bangladesh draw would be nice
Re the ICC CWC Pool match Australia vs. Bangladesh:
Given that neither football nor rugby need cricket’s rain-free weather to take place, the prospects for Brisbane’s only glimpse of the home team at this tournament look very grim indeed…
“ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 organisers are working closely with authorities in Queensland regarding tomorrow’s match between Australia and Bangladesh given the extreme weather situation in the State and the forecasts for ongoing rain in Brisbane,” a spokesman said. “Our thoughts are with the people affected.
“However as THERE IS NO RESERVE DAY FOR POOL MATCHES, we will continue to prepare in the hope that the match can go ahead. The ICC match officials will make a decision on the match tomorrow based on conditions at the time. A match can be successfully completed if each side has minimum of 20 overs which means that it is still possible to achieve a result with a start after the scheduled innings break…”

The Cancellation of the Aus / Bangladesh game builds the pressure on England.
Minnows lining up with enthusiasm for a games thought cut and dried.
England last in Pool A with no points.
Bangladesh 3rd with a win and a draw.
Go the Underdogs.

I’m enjoying reading the Pommie papers… the post mortem of English cricket after the carnage of Fridays game is fascinating….
