Forwards Bongi Mbonambi and Nizaam Carr have been named in the DHL Stormers starting 15 for Saturday’s Vodacom Super Rugby clash against the Lions at Emirates Airlines Park (kick-off 19:10 SA Time, 17:10 GMT).
Mbonambi will make his first start for the DHL Stormers in a rotational change at hooker, with Scarra Ntubeni reverting to the bench, whilst Springbok loose forward Carr comes in for the injured Rynhardt Elstadt in the No 6 jersey.
Elstadt suffered a serious leg injury against the Blues last week – a game the DHL Stormers won by 27 / 16 – and will be out of action for at least 4 months.
In other team news, meanwhile, Springbok tighthead prop Frans Malherbe has been named on the bench following his recovery from a long-term leg injury and fit-again Argentine lock Manuel Carizza is back in the selection mix too after nursing a shoulder injury.
Carizza has not featured as yet this year, after picking up an injury in pre-season action last month, whilst Malherbe suffered his ankle injury on Bok duty in August of last year.
The DHL Stormers have made a strong start to the 2015 Super Rugby season, winning both their matches thus far – away to the Bulls and at home to the Blues.
However, head coach Allister Coetzee is not expecting any favours from the Lions who will be looking to register their first win of 2015.
Coetzee told the www.iamastormer.com website: “It’s our 2nd challenge (early in the competition) at altitude and we’re expecting a very tough encounter against a desperate Lions team who are back at home again.
“From our side we are looking for continuous improvement in our play. Yes, we have won 2 matches but we are not fully satisfied and know that we can get better – and must get better – if we are to build on our start.
“We need to front up and need all of our key men to be at their best for what will be a very challenging match.”
Meanwhile, young prop Wilco Louw – who has featured off the bench for the DHL Stormers this season – will be in action for the DHL Western Province Vodacom Cup team in a pre-season friendly at Sir Lowrians this evening. Louw is one of 11 DHL Stormers training squad members in action.
DHL Stormers teams: 15 Cheslin Kolbe, 14 Johnny Kotze, 13 Juan de Jongh (Vice-captain), 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Dillyn Leyds, 10 Demetri Catrakilis, 9 Nic Groom, 8 Duane Vermeulen (Captain), 7 Michael Rhodes, 6 Nizaam Carr, 5 Ruan Botha, 4 Jurie van Vuuren, 3 Vincent Koch, 2 Bongi Mbonambi, 1 Steven Kitshoff
Replacements: 16 Scarra Ntubeni, 17 Oli Kebble, 18 Frans Malherbe, 19 Manuel Carizza, 20 Siya Kolisi, 21 Louis Schreuder, 22 Kurt Coleman, 23 Huw Jones.
Referee: Andrew Lees (Australia)

@ Victoriabok:
boshoff het nie n snowballs chance in hel gehad om Morne te vervang nie, Morne was ook basies nooit beseer nie… tyd was maar reg om aan te beweeg toe boshoff te oud was vir ouderdomsgroep rugby… hyt nog n jaar gesukkel by griquas tot die lions hom n goue kans gegee het.
@ nortie:

So wat se jy?
Dat hulle net teen die Bulls gaan wen die jaar? 😆
@ nortie:
haha bulle is amper soos n CB span

Meer soos ‘n Vodacom Span
Ek dink Tuks se Varsity Cup span sal die Bulle op ‘n goeie dag kan pakgee
Jislaaik all the Bulls doom and gloom
They will be back, they are not as bad as you guys are making out.
It’s a team loaded with Boks. If they can get their scrums to work everything else will fall into place.
It’s way too early to write off any team after 2 matches.
On the plus side, I can sit anywhere I like at Loftus…

Beach Umbrella, anybody??
Had a kak day…
One of the things which happened to me today… I was in a rush to get out to Midrand because I had a lot to do there and then to be back for an appointment at my office at 15:00.
So, I flew to Midrand in my normal style with the Blik Met Wiele, only to be stopped in a massive Road Block right near Old Pretoria Road on the Olifantsfontein Road.
They stopped EVERYBODY, me too of course!
I did not have my Drivers Licence Card with me, and my bloody car’s Licence Disk had expired in bloody November already (I thought it was due in April for some reason)… but that’s not all… I had some outstanding speeding tickets…
They had their whole van there, computers, printers, cash registers, the whole bang shoot!
So, I immediately had to pay my outstanding fines, right there on the spot, which I must have collected over time… hahaha
Got away with the Licence Disk issue and the non-availability of my Drivers Licence, cost me a Buffeltjie on the side though… flok!
Needless to say, I had to postpone my appointment to tomorrow at 15:00.
Back at the office, had a look at the rugby news and of course had a terrible “GRILLLLL” regarding the freegin Bulls team for Saturday…. eish!
Still working like a galley slave again tonight… will still work for an hour or so and then it’s off to bed.
Talk about umbrellas up the riempie… today felt like that

Everywhere you park in SA some locals (vagrants?) always show up as you exit your car and tells you they’ll watch your car.
They’re called car guards or “motor wagte” in Afrikaans
Paige doesn’t belong at this level and he’s very fortunate to be playing. The same goes for Visser.
