All Black Ma’a Nonu is back at centre for the Hurricanes as they prepare to face the Bulls in a Super Rugby clash at Loftus Versfeld on Friday.
Nonu missed the Hurricanes’ 22 / 8 win over the Lions in Johannesburg last
weekend to attend the birth of his child, but has slotted into the starting fifteen this week.
It will be Nonu’s 145th Super Rugby appearance, and 1st for the Hurricanes since 2011.
The match will also be a significant occasion for Manawatu flank Callum Gibbins, who is set to get his 1st start for the Hurricanes.
Head-to-head, this will be the 19th time the Hurricanes and the Bulls have met on the Super Rugby field, both winning 9 matches each.
Friday’s match kicks off at 19:10 SA Time (17:10 GMT).
Hurricanes: 15 Jason Woodward, 14 Cory Jane, 13 Conrad Smith (Captain), 12 Ma’a Nonu, 11 Julian Savea, 10 Beauden Barrett, 9 TJ Perenara, 8 Blade Thomson, 7 Callum Gibbins, 6 Brad Shields, 5 James Broadhurst, 4 Mark Abbott, 3 Ben Franks, 2 Dan Coles, 1 Reggie Goodes
Replacements: 16 Brayden Mitchell, 17 Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, 18 Chris Eves, 19 Ardie Savea, 20 Victor Vito, 21 Chris Smylie, 22 James Marshall, 23 Matt Proctor

A hard-running backline for the Canes… coupled to the fact that Canes Assistant coach John Plumtree knows the Bulls very, very well… means I think the Canes will also beat the Bulls on Friday Evening.
… that’s also what my Bru pick will look like for this match.
the sharks latst ad campaign is brilliant so much more relevant than “invisibul” or “kom nou ouens tjille moenie so op newlands boo nie ek se”
Gents (& Ladies?)
I’ve just been asked if I know anyone who may want to watch Friday evening’s game in a suite? (A supplier of one of my major clints)
There are 6 tickets available so if you want to go give me a shout on scrumdown@rugby-talk.com
If I haven’t heard by 14h00 I’ve tell the chap to send them back to the suite holder.

5 @ gunther:
Things must be depressing in PTA when you can’t even GIVE suite tickets away!
@ Scrumdown:
Look as long as it’s free I don’t think he cares.

Yip, it is depressing!
But I suppose the difference between the Bulls and other SA Franchises is that Bulls supporters are not as patient with mediocrity as for instance the Lions who has achieved nothing for 13 years… and still just plod along to support their side.
Same with the Stormers fans… have won nothing of any serious consequence in years, and years… and years… but their support will just rock up and accept it.
The Sharks fans and Bulls fans get properly de bliksem in if struggle continues for more than 2 seasons…
This to me says one thing… and that is that it is the Bulls supporters expectation that their team do well, it is demanded!
Count your blessings – you could’ve been rugby fans living in Polokwane or East London …
Where’s Ryecatcher?
Hope he’s OK …
@ Scrumdown:
Thanks for the offer, I would have gone if I was there too 😮
