Cheetahs scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius will join Welsh side Newport Gwent Dragons after this year’s Super Rugby competition.
The Dragons announced the news via their official website on Friday, saying the 30-year-old has signed a long-term deal.
Speaking after putting pen to paper, Pretorius commented: “I am delighted to have signed for the Dragons.
“They have a great group of players along with fantastic facilities and coaches, so I am looking forward to joining up with the squad. I feel that it is an exciting time to be involved and I am looking forward to seeing where we can go as a club.”
Pretorius made his Super Rugby debut for the Cheetahs in 2009 against Western Force whilst also playing provincial rugby for the Griquas. In 2009, he also played for the Royal XV against the touring British and Irish Lions.
In 2012, Pretorius signed for the Waratahs for two years, but after just one season there he returned to the Cheetahs in 2013.

tatta ou super sarel thanks vir al die ongelooflike driee,n jammerte dat ons springbok afrigters jou nooit raak gesien het nie
Quite disappointed to read this news. Have been thinking ever since we heard Nico Matawalu was leaving Glasgow that Sarel Pretorius would be a great replacement for him but the Dragons got in their first. Such a good player with a lot of experience that could have helped the up and coming scrumhalves at Glasgow like Ali Price develop. With Sarel we would also have had the benefit of getting a player in who would probably not be away on international duty and so available throughout the season, especially handy as only established scrum half left at moment for next season Henry Pyrgos will probably miss big chunks of the season away with Scotland.
