The festive season continues with derby matches in Round 12 of the Guinness PRO12. Some of the matches are the return leg of derbies played around the Boxing Day period. The attention in Scotland will be focussed on BT Murrayfield on Friday night where Edinburgh will host their rivals from the west, Glasgow Warriors, in a PRO12 fixture that doubles up as the second leg of the 1872 Cup.
Glasgow Warriors go into the game with a 10-point advantage following their win over Edinburgh on Boxing Day and will be looking to retain what is said to be the oldest cup in club rugby, yet again. There was only 1 try scored in the first leg of the 1872 Cup last week and with blustery conditions likely for Friday night the game may be a low scoring battle of attrition that could go the way of the team that makes the least errors.
Considering the relative positions of the 2 teams on the PRO12 table and the fact that Glasgow go into the game with that 10- point cushion one should expect at the very least that they maintain their grip on the 1872 Cup.
Teams
Edinburgh have made two changes to their starting line up with Tim Visser coming in at left wing for Tom Brown who was flattened by Sean Lamont in the build up to Glasgow’s try last week, and Phil Burleigh replaces Andries Strauss who has been criticized quite a lot (perhaps a bit harshly) in the local media and by fans.
Glasgow have made various changes to their starting line up with Tommy Seymour, Finn Russell, Jonny Gray, Fraser Brown and Gordon Reid returning after resting last week, while fullback Peter Murchie starts in place of Stuart Hogg, who was an injury concern this week. Sean Maitland replaces Sean Lamont on the wing and Tyrone Holmes starts at flank in place of injured Rob Harley. The young scrumhalf Ali Price has been included on the bench and may make his second competitive appearance for the club.

Injuries
Both teams have substantial injury lists although Edinburgh’s one seems to be getting shorter while that of Glasgow Warriors is getting longer. The Glasgow team had the news comfirmed this week of a potential long term injury to stalwart Rob Harley. He damaged tissue in his left knee and left ankle in the match against Edinburgh last week.

You won’t find a bigger fan of Ruan’s on here than me JFK. Have seen him play many good games, they don’t love him at Ulster for nothing. Pity if he didn’t play well yesterday, only tuned into the game just before I first posted score and seen he was playing, by time got back to the game he had been subbed off. Maybe he was a bit rusty and not completely fit again after injuries, or were his forwards outplayed? A lot of the scrumhalves these days take that annoying bit of extra time to steady themselves before they pass you don’t really see the Divan Serfontein dive pass anymore. Another thing is so many times they telegraph the box kick, I have not put my finger onto what it is with certainty but 9 times out of 10 in that short time before they start to execute it I will guess it is coming, not sure what the trigger move is that I catch, I think it is maybe a bit less movement from them when they pick up the ball and then a little forward bend and slight glance ahead just before they drop the ball to their feet to be kicked that gives it away.

Missed that one, how did Montpellier play, they have been struggling so maybe Jake has made his usual instant impact in lifting a team. We play them in European Cup in two weeks time at home and then Bath the week after. Was hoping we would pick up the points with ease against Montpellier and then scrap with Bath to try and get a win down there to qualify. But if Montpellier are on the up and they have Jake helping them it makes that match a bit trickier, if you are about you should try and see if you can go watch that game on the 18th at Scotstoun if you can get tickets.
