Jerry Yanuyanutawa says the Warriors will face a highly motivated Montpellier team in Sunday’s European Rugby Champions Cup match at Scotstoun.
The French side have lost all four of their Cup matches so far, but those defeats were sustained while Fabien Galthie was in charge. Galthie was replaced by Jake White at the end of last month, and the South African put down his marker by guiding them to a 16-12 victory over European champions Toulon in his very first game.
Jerry’s knowledge of the coach is based on their season together with the ACT Brumbies in Australia and he is convinced that White is a formidable and inspirational character.

Jerry said: “I was there for a year when Jake was there. I would say that Jake is a very calculating coach, very smart, always a forward planner. Coming here, he won’t have the French mentality. He will be wanting to come here to get a victory.
“Jake took over and brought through a young group. Everyone thought that we would finish bottom of the super Rugby table, but we ended up finishing in the middle. The year after, we played in the final, and that’s all due to Jake White bringing players through.
“When I was under Jake, I found that he made the group believe in themselves. That year, everyone wrote us off, but he came in as a good planer and a good manager and he knew how to get the job done.
“Jake is a good in finding motivations for players. I wouldn’t be surprised if he finds something to get the French boys up. I know everyone will probably be talking them down, and that they’ll throw this away, but knowing Jake White he’s not that kind of coach.”
Pity am working on Sunday otherwise could have tried to get there to try get us some sound bites direct from Jake to share here. Calling JFK – you are a lot closer, could you go and do a bit, already have a headline you could use for an article: “Jake meets JFK”
We gave Jake a lot of grief, especially at the Sharks. He is a tough guy to deal with when he does not get his way, but in the French top 14 with an abundance of resources I think he could well be quite successful.
2 @ MacroBull:
Hi MacroBull, ja he does seem to polarize opinions. Hopefully he isn’t successful this weekend, he can carry on his winning ways from next weekend. He is only on a 6 month deal there I think so pretty much been brought in to do a hospital job there aim will be to end as high as possible in the Top 14, Europe is past for them this year as they are in no position to qualify for the knockout stage with only the 2 pool games to go so the talk is one of hope that they will be focussing more on the Top 14 especially for Sunday’s European game against Glasgow. Jerry has said Jake White is not the kind who would not be competing as hard as he can but we know that he threw any chance the Boks had in the Tri Nations in 2007 to focus on the bigger fish the World Cup which he succeeded in bringing home. It’s odd because you would think that European Cup is a step up from the Top 14 but considering their position in Europe and the timing of his arrival my bet will be on him going all for getting his team to do as well as possible in Top 14. I suppose there are various ways he could go about that, one being not picking his best for Sunday and ‘saving’ the players for Top 14, but then he could also want them to go for it Sunday and next week in Europe so that they can get into the habit of his playing pattern and be well oiled for their next Top 14 game. Interesting stuff all I’ll say is GO GLASGOW!
@ Bullscot:
According to this, more likely 2 years.
This is more a poorly written PR exercise for the pro Jake……according to him “being a coach” is all reason he needs to do whatever he does.
Nowhere did he explain why he up and left the Brumbies, Sharks and Tonga without attempting to see out his contracts…..but I suppose “being a coach” means you don’t have to.

@ Bullscot:
Montpiller has been terribly inconsistent during the Top14. It is tough to predict what Jake will do this weekend, I am sure he would want to take some momentum into the top14 so he would really want to select a team that can win, and he would want to win at all costs to secure a longer term contract.
Windies were 56/2 after 8 overs chasing 280, at least Chris Gayle is out
Oeps sorry got it wrong the target is reduced as overs down to 33
Windies need 162 still off 23 overs
Looks like the Ama-Blomme wil win this one comfortably…
Windies 134 / 6 after 24 overs.
They need 95 off 54 balls.
Fark, don’t tell me the Blomme can choke from here…
2 x 6 in a row by the Windies!
Oh goodie, then a wicket… Russell gone too!
Windies steadily losing wickets though.. and the rain threatening again.
So Blomme should in, and definately with Luckworth Dewis… was tempted to spell “Dewis” a bit differently… hehehe
62 rums needed off 4 overs (24 balls)
Windies lose another wicket… 164 / 9
Last ball is nicked… all over, Rover!
Blomme win by 61 runs
Apart from Gayle, the Windies really do not offer too much, do they!
And of course with Dale Steyn, Morné Morkel, and Philander, the Blomme immediately also offer far more on attack… specially when Tahir’s fire is also ignited by the 3 good quickies I’ve just mentioned.
Duminy also bowled well, even though he took no wickets… slowed the run chase down nicely when it mattered.
On the batting side, AB, Amla and David Miller performed nicely, big runs by all three.
So, the Blomme ODI squad looks MUCH, MUCH more settled and competitive than the Blomme T20 side (which was really a bits & pieces side).
AB, Amla, Miller, Duminy, Philander, Morkel, Steyn and Tahir (when his mates show him the way) can all be considered World Class for the ODI’s… add Faf to it… and it makes 9 of 11 who can do it for the Blomme in the World Cup.
I thought that Jake had got results with The Brumbies because he sorted out the stroppy players and got them playing a different style of rugby, the style the management wanted not what the players thought was the way to win!
I understood that he got results with The Brumbies too!!
Perhaps he will shake a failing French club up a bit too!
Just saying!! 🙂
Of course it is bedtime in South Africa now so no one to chat to here!!
Life is just so busy it is hard to get here in time to catch up with you lot………..
Is Pub Night still a fixture? Great idea, shame I am out on Tuesdays.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the summer sun and think of us Pom’s expecting snow here !!
16 @ Blue Bird:
There are no stroppy players at the Brumbies, Carol, never have been & never will be.

Hi GBS sorry went off here for a bit, glad to see we won the cricket. Let me quickly go check for some European rugby scores, hoping its good news for Edinburgh.
European Rugby Champions Cup, latest – Leicester 26/11 Scarlets
20 @ Bullscot:
I still owe you an answer on E-Mail… have not forgotten.
Hands, eyes, ears… too few of them at the moment… hehehe
Also need to add quite a bit of rugby news and do the 4 SuperBru pools… will do it after I’ve been to the bank quickly in the morning.
Time for me to get some shut-eye… see in the morning
European Rugby Challenge Cup, latest Cardiff Blues 90/12 Rovigo
Bordeaux Beagles 12/3 London Welsh (1st placed Edinburgh would prefer to see London Welsh winning this one with Bordeaux in 2nd place on the table in their pool and with Edinburgh and Bordeaux facing each other in the final pool match next weekend)
22 @ grootblousmile:
Ok man will keep an eye out for it, thought you had your hands full with everything your side.
European Rugby Challenge Cup – result – Cardiff Blues 104/12 Rovigo!
European Rugby Challenge Cup – result – pool 4 – Bordeaux Beagles 26/3 London Welsh
That was a bonus point for Bordeaux who now have the same number of points on table in pool 4 as Edinburgh, both on 16 but Edinburgh have a game in hand, playing a tough one away against Lyon tomorrow. Crazy thing is Edinburgh have won all 4 of their games so far while Bordeaux have won 3 lost 2 out of their 5 games but have earned 4 bonus points while Edinburgh have 0 bonus points.
European Rugby Champions Cup, result – Leicester 40/23 Scarlets – bonus point for Leicester who scored 6 tries. That puts Leicester in 2nd place in pool with same number of points (13) as first placed Toulon who have a game in hand
European Rugby Champions Cup, latest – Saracens 33/10 Munster
