Wallaby captain Michael Hooper has allegedly been involved in an incident with a friend whist at the New South Wales coastal Town of Byron Bay, where the police were called out, and Hooper’s friend charged.
The latest incident is just another in a long list involving Wallaby players that is perhaps indicative of the deep rooted problems facing the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) in terms of player discipline off the field.
The ARU seem either uncapable, or unwilling to take the matters to heart and sort the issue (with their top players) out. A fact which must surely have an influence on Rugby Union’s endeavours to have the sport taken more seriously in a country where the sport lags far behing Aussie Rules, and Rugby League in terms of spectator support, and is battling to keep up with or ahead of Association Football (soccer) for bums on seats on a weekly basis.
Australia’s Nine Network
Wallabies captain Michael Hooper has reportedly been involved in an incident in Byron Bay that attracted the attention of police.
Australia’s Nine Network says 23-year-old Hooper and a friend were out in the New South Wales coastal town in the early hours of Monday morning when the friend jumped on a parked car. A security guard called the police who arrived after Hooper and his friend had allegedly attempted to rip a signpost out of the ground, Nine reported. It understood the police would seek to charge Hooper’s friend, who is also aged 23, but not the Australian rugby captain over the incident.
New South Wales police later issued a statement on the incident.
“About 1.30am today, two men both aged 23 were walking along Bay St at Byron Bay,” the police said. “Police were told a 23-year-old Manly resident jumped on the roof of a parked car. The two men were seen to push over a signpost that was later repositioned without damage.
“Legal action is expected to be taken against the Manly resident in relation to the damaged car. Inquiries are continuing.”
Hooper earlier this year became the youngest man to captain the Wallabies.
And yet another top Aussie player falls from grace.
What a bunch of incredulous prats they are!
Boys just having a bit of “fun” but the problem is you just cannot do this sort of thing when you’re in the public eye.
In fact you can’t do it fullstop.

@ BrumbiesBoy:
IMHO the Idiocy Sickness seems to be endemic in Australian and (to a lesser extent) NZ Rugby players.
From Beale sending rude and sexist texts, to Pockock getting arrested for chaining himself up in a “tree hugging” demo’, to Cooper and his myriad of transgressions, now this incident, and add to this list the likes of Zac Guilford, James O’Connor and Aaron Cruden, and suddenly there’s a swimming pool full of fools from down under who just don’t seem to be able to think when it’s really needed.
FFS, they could all become SA members of parliament they’re so stoooopid.
