The Golden Lions Rugby Union is not worried about reports stating that head coach Johan Ackermann is being targeted by a top Japanese club.

It was reported earlier this week that the Lions will struggle to keep Ackermann in South Africa after next year’s Rugby World Cup, with the former Springbok lock reportedly receiving a big-money offer from a Japanese club.

However, the Lions insisted they will not have a fight on their hands to hold on to the services of Ackermann.

“I don’t want to elaborate on the issue, because then I’ll give it more exposure than it deserves,” Lions CEO Rudolph Straeuli said.

“Two months ago, Johan officially extended his contract until 31 October 2016. We are thankful that he has committed to us.”

Under the coaching tutelage of Ackermann, the Lions had a decent 2014, winning seven Super Rugby matches and reaching the Currie Cup final, before narrowly losing to Western Province at Newlands.

The Lions will open their 2015 Super Rugby campaign at home to the Hurricanes on Friday 13 February.

So it is now official. The Lions will be know as the Emirates Lions in Super Rugby for the next 5 years and Ellis Park will be know as Emirates Airlines Park. And that along with the Huawei, and the other associate sponsors, we are in more stable position financially now.

The Lions will also from 1 January be known as Emirates Lions… so one wonders what has happened / is happening to the Xerox Deal!

And the stadium to be named Emirates Airline Park.

Lions die hards will not be too pleased methinks!

Congrats to the lions. Especially getting help from outside. The name changes are but a small sacrifice.

Shame, poor Hugh Bladen, imagine trying to say “the Emirates Lions at the Emirates Airline Park” while being sloshed with whisky

No we WILL have reason to shout at the Emirates Lions, if and when they do not perform up to scratch!

    Farking ARABS!!

During the time that the stadium was called Coca Cola Park, I still called it Ellis Park. I still call the Millennium Stadium, “Cardiff Arms” and Aviva Stadium is Lansdowne Road for me.
But I am a happy chappy.
