SaracensSaracens have named a powerful 23-man squad for the north-south clash against Western Province at Allianz Park on Sunday.

Alistair Hargreaves will lead the side, as Saracens face the recently crowned South African Currie Cup champions.

“Western Province are one of the strongest sides in South Africa, and we’re really looking forward to the challenge,” Sarries Director of Rugby Mark McCall said.

“We will field our strongest possible side.”

Meanwhile retired Springbok Joost van der Westhuizen will attend the match.

The former scrumhalf, capped 89 times by South Africa, is raising awareness for Motor Neuron Disease, a condition he has been fighting since 2011.

    Nice to read that Joost will be attending the match, would be great if he could make the Bulls game against Saracens in January.

    Considering its international matches time this is a much stronger Saracens squad than I thought there would be to face WP when the match was first announced a while ago. I guess I didn’t bank on Stettle and especially Ashton not making England squad and would also have expected Kelly Brown and Jim Hamilton to be away with Scotland. Good things have been said about flanker Will Fraser but he didn’t make the England squad so also available, interesting to read that he was with WP academy in 2009.

    For sure…..for a change no decent rugby on a Saturday, but the big clash on the Sunday makes up for that.
