Springbok captain Jean de Villiers is the only player assured of his place in next year’s Rugby World Cup squad, coach Heyneke Meyer has revealed.
A squad of 31 players will be picked for next year’s showpiece event in England and Wales.

At the announcement of his team to play Wales in Cardiff on Saturday, Meyer said: “Several players are close to being included in the World Cup squad. But only Jean’s position is safe. We can only pick 31 players and six of those will be props.”
Meyer said he was happy with the depth at his disposal less than a year away from the World Cup.
“We have three top players in every position and there’s not much to choose between them. That’s what we strived for in the year before the World Cup. Even the lock position, where I was worried about our depth, we suddenly have options. I also still rate Morne Steyn highly as a flyhalf.”

Nope, twas Pieter Nel:
“… Die Natallers het die Ligbloues, wat lelik ontwrig is met Pieter
Nel se fratsbesering net voor die begin van die wedstryd, van die
begin tot die end die stryd aangesê.
Die Ligbloues was duidelik ontsenu deur Nel se besering en het
in die begin in ‘n dwaal gespeel …”

Yes. The owner of Toulon, Mourad Boudjellal is notorious for making outrageous statements but the truth is, he had no choice about releasing those players during the championship, but you can bet he won’t voluntarily release them when he isn’t obliged to.

Lizo Gqoboka had a good 2014 season & was a reasonable call up to the EXTENDED Bok pre tour camp to see what he had to offer.
I have previously posted here (& at Keo) that given demographic requirements for Bok selection, loose head prop appears to be one of those positions (for now) reserved for PsOC. Nothing wrong with Mtwarira & Nyakane. But Gurthrö appears past his sell by date. HM is looking for a successor for GS, & it may, or may not be, Lizo.
If you guys were Bok coach what would you do? Just ignore the demographic selection requirements, after when applying for the job, undertaking to implement such?
Give HM a break, mon … his job is the toughest in the top tiers of World Rugby.

I think it is just a not an easy case of Meyer making ALL the calls and that surely SARU also plays a role.

Ire mon.

Yes, proving that the training camp call ups is just a waste of time, everybody with half a brain cell will know that the 9 of NFS won’t play for the Boks, or anyone at the Kings either. Any players playing at those lesser teams is only there because no one at the proper unions want them.

Why?
HM had him for a couple of weeks and chose not to play him, why is he now all of a sudden good enough?

Ross Cronje might be a fine Michaelhouse boy but he almost single handedly cost the Lions the CC final.
