Pumas coach Jimmy Stonehouse is pondering his future after a receiving an offer to coach in Japan.
According to reports, Stonehouse has until next Friday to decide if he will accept an offer to coach the Toshiba Brave Lupus.
Should he decide to leave, he would be lost for South African rugby until the middle part of 2017.

It was reported earlier this month that Stonehouse was in Japan to hold discussions with Toshiba’s rugby bosses. At the time, Stonehouse said he was there to visit a friend, Australian Joe Barakat, who is Toshiba’s forwards coach. Barakat asked Stonehouse to conduct a training camp for the team in Kagoshima, with Stonehouse insisting it’s was not a permanent venture.
But Stonehouse has now confirmed that he received an offer to coach there. “It’s a good offer and I’m definitely considering it. But it would be a very tough decision. The Pumas have been very good to me these last few years,” he said.
Stonehouse has impressed in his time at the Pumas, helping them win the 2013 Currie Cup First Division as well as gain promotion for this year’s event, in which the Pumas finished sixth overall, bagging four wins from their 10 games.
Stonehouse was also named South African rugby’s Coach of the Year in 2013.
Would be an excellent move for Jimmy, as all avenues to advance upwards in SA seem to be blocked for him.
Go to Japan, create success there and he might in a few years come back to SA as a Super Rugby Coach… or an International Coach somewhere.

Agree. A very underrated coach. He did wonders with his no name brands. Not too many coaches would have achieved as much with as little as he had. If he takes the Japan job, he will be able to build up some great experience. Who knows, and I am throwing a huge speculative pass here, that he may even end up as the head coach of the Japanese SR team in 2016. Maybe he is being offered this contract to get him used to the Japanese way of life?

Interesting thought, grooming Jimmy for the japanese Super Rugby coach… who knows!
