Gilbert Rugby BallOnly one more Internatonal Test to be played today, that between Georgia vs Japan at 17:00 SA Time and Georgian Time, the rest of the results are in already!

Some surprising results all around, with the Italian Azzurri holding the Springboks to a limited win, Ireland narrowly beating the Wallabies, Wales containing the All Blacks untill the 69th minute before letting in 3 quick tries and France falling to a spirited Argentinian Pumas side.

The rest of the results, well they are pure wall decorations, for want of a better expletive.

The Weekend’s International Results are as follows:

  • Fiji 20 / 14 USA
  • Italy 6 / 22 South Africa
  • Portugal 29 / 20 Namibia
  • Scotland 37 / 12 Tonga
  • Ireland 26 / 23 Australia
  • Wales 16 / 34 New Zealand
  • Romania 18 / 9 Canada
  • England 28 / 9 Samoa
  • France 13 / 18 Argentina

Namibia are going to be the whipping boys at the WC.
They are very fortunate to qualify in an African group where there is only one real side in that whole continent that can properly play the game.
After the Boks there is nothing left in Africa when it comes to rugby.

    1 @ nortie:
Something to do with the great development plans implemented by SARU and their big brother counterpart the IR er World Rugby in the continent?

Or perhaps the totally “professional” management and administration at the Confederation of African Rugby who seem more worried about whether their meetings should be conducted in English or French than they do in sorting out the abysmal quality of Rugby and facilities once one ventures outside of the borders of RSA.

As much as I dislike Association Football, at least I have to concede that FIFA have uplifted their sport world wide in the last 30 years than the IRB have done in the last 100, and probably will do in the next 200.

One rarely sees African sides (or other former “minnows”) being humiliated at FIFA World Cup tournaments theses days, but unfortunately Rugby Union can’t say the same.

May as well have a RWC with only 8 teams, and even then only 5 (England, SA, NZ, Aus, France (maybe))are truly capable of winning it.

I don’t think even Ireland or Wales have the ability to win 7 in a row at a RWC to win the tournament, and the French as about as consistent as my wife’s moods!
