Ross Cronjé

Xerox Golden Lions scrumhalf Ross Cronje has been called up to the Springbok tour squad in Cardiff as replacement for Rudy Paige.

Paige injured his medial knee ligaments in training earlier this week and will be out for approximately four weeks.

A request was made for Toulouse scrumhalf Jano Vermaak to rejoin the squad but it was rejected as he is playing for his club this weekend.

“Ross impressed during a very successful Absa Currie Cup campaign for the Golden Lions and also showed good form earlier in the year in Vodacom Super Rugby,” said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer.

“We considered not calling up a third scrumhalf but that would’ve been very risky.”

Cronje will link up with the Springboks in Cardiff on Friday.

15 Willie le Roux (24 caps, 35 points)
    14 Cornal Hendricks (10 caps, 25 points)
    13 Jan Serfontein (19 caps, 10 points)
12 Jean de Villiers (Captain – 105 caps, 135 points)
    11 Lwazi Mvovo (9 caps, 15 points)
    10 Pat Lambie (39 caps, 100 points)
    9 Cobus Reinach (5 caps, 10 points)

I know it may be a bit simplistic as you need to look at the overall contribution of a player ie how much does he create around him and how many of the opposition moves does he prevent from ending in points, the above shows that Cornal Hendricks has the highest try scoring rate in tests of all the starting backline Boks (a try every second match) – tells me he is a good finisher of moves and scoring tries is what the game is about…

    @ Bullscot:
I am not so sure about Lwazi, but Hendricks is a weak defender.

    @ Nama:
Jy weet van dronk wees 2 uur die nag ne? 😆

    @ Bullscot:
Hendricks is a weak defender but other players tend to underestimate his speed, he is a really good offensive player.

Hi ya MacroBok yes sorry that was intended for you, lekker aan die slaap hier, hopefully the kicking is better than last week then, no point just handing possession back to the Welsh runners, think good time to get to sleep here cheers man Zzzzzz

    @ Bullscot:
Hendricks probably got exposed on defence by Savea in the RC game in NZ. He really seemed scared to tackle Savea one on one. Even bailed out of contesting an uppie at one time.

He is quite the finisher though…if only our inside backs can create space for him and Mvovo.
