    @ Jeraldjay:
Unfortunately I have to agree about Eben…….I expect more of him.

Having said that, IMO Victor should use Eben more in the lineouts. Locks need to get lineout ball – It boosts their confidence: and that is true.

Look, what happened today can be fixed… and quickly too.

Our set pieces were bloody good..

The rush game did not work for us today, we made too many errors from it… in other words we put ourselves on the back foot by trying to rush things.. and it also led to many wrong options taken.

If I was Frans Ludeke I would have said… “We did not execute well today!”

    Hehehe

  • 334

Fellas, hopefully the Bokke bounce back… they will be hurting after this one and England is no mickey mouse side

  • 335

    England is our strongest opposition
    G’nite all

    @ Ben-die-Bok:

  • 337

Ireland’s tactical kicking reminded me of the Bulle in their hayday.

Perfectly weighted Gary Owen’s with the chasers always competing for the ball.

  • 338

Thankfully we were without Spies and his bulging biceps, his chiselled forearms and invisible cloak.

  • 340

Okay, thank you all, see you at the Saracens match.

  • 341

When one sees that your set pieces dominate, one plays towards those set pices… one forces lineouts under pressure by the opposition, one continues to dominate the scrums.

We took a number of Irish lineouts, therefore I would have expected us to play more towards that strengh…

Our scrums went bloody well, I was pleasantly surprised.

Think we should have played ball closer to the forwards on many occasions, our one-off runners were a channel too wide mostly… and then our backline drifted because of cumbersome ball from the scrummies.

  • 342

    Alberts
    Flip
    PSDT
    Louw
    Arno
    FDP

  • 343

We can pull this game apart, we can lament certain things… and we should, but it won’t take away the loss.

Apply the lessons learnt, adapt litlte things… but do not revert back to kick and chase, please!

  • 344

  • 345

Although this is no excuse – but I have been thinking about this for a while – IMO it was an excellent idea that the contracted players were excluded from the Currie Cup (apart from JJ and Damian) but to be honest: can we expect them to be “match ready” after a month of “practising only” and no matches ?

Perhaps we’ll (only) reap the rewards next year ??

Have a good night all !!

  • 346

    344 @ Ben-die-Bok:

  • 347

  • 348

Congratulations Ireland! Really didn’t expect them to win let alone by such a margin.

  • 349

Wink

Pollard se rapport tot dusver as ‘n begin losskakel:
    vs Arg (tuis): kak
    vs Arg (weg): kak
    vs AB (weg): goed
    vs Aus (tuis): kak
    vs AB (tuis): vokken goed
    vs Ierland (weg:) uiters kak

Gemiddelde uitslag: Baie kak.

Of was dit net pollard en janneman se skuld?

is eben nogsteeds nie wedstryd fiks nie? 😀

  • 351

    @ MacroBok:

Do you even have to ask?

    🙄

  • 352

Tauriq Ebrahim rates the South African players!

    15 Willie le Roux:
Excellent under the high ball and always posed a threat on the counter-attack while putting in a good kicking effort. Fell apart in the second half.
    6/10

    14 Cornal Hendricks:
Never had an attacking opportunity but had the best seat in the house for the 50 minutes he was on the field.
    3/10

    13 Jan Serfontein:
Looked out of his depth and hid himself in the field.
    3/10

    12 Jean de Villers (captain):
Attempted to straighten the attacking lines. Other than that, was only seen when speaking to the referee.
    4/10

    11 Bryan Habana:
Posed no threat in the game. A mere passenger on the side of the field.
    3/10

    10 Handré Pollard:
Missed his first kick of the match and never recovered. Was a shadow of his recent self.
    4/10

    9 Francois Hougaard:
The less said, the better. Looked out of sorts and left much to be desired.
    3/10

    8 Duane Vermeulen:
Must have felt like the lone ranger with yet another monumental effort. Had a chance to have a throw-in when Adriaan Strauss was in the sin bin.
    8/10

    7 Teboho Mohoje:
Taking off early in the second half after a workman-like effort in the first 40 minutes. Made life hard for the Irish at the breakdown.
    6/10

    6 Marcell Coetzee:
A warrior-like effort in defence was rewarded with a try in the second half.
    6/10

    5 Victor Matfield:
The veteran showed he is still one of the best line-out jumpers in the world.
    5/10

    4 Eben Etzebeth:
Made a nuisance of himself by stealing some line-out ball. Had some good carries and made plenty of tackles.
    6/10

    3 Jannie du Plessis:
Gave a much improved performance and dominated his opponent in the scrums.
    6/10

    2 Bismarck du Plessis:
Gave away needless penalties in the first half but turned that around by winning some in the second half. Accurate with his line-out throws.
    4/10

    1 Tendai Mtawarira:
Massive effort in the scrums and always there to clean out at the breakdown.
    6/10

    Replacements:

16 Adriaan Strauss (on for Bismarck du Plessis, 51st min):
Didn’t do anything to catch the eye but received a dubious yellow card for tackling a player in the air in the 67th minute.
    3/10

17 Trevor Nyakane (on for Tendai Mtawarira, 67th min):
Not enough time to be rated.

18 Coenie Oosthuizen (on for Jannie du Plessis, 71st min):
Not enough time to be rated.

19 Bakkies Botha (on for Eben Etsabeth, 65th min):
Came on, ran around but had no impact whatsoever.
    4/10

20 Schalk Burger (on for Teboho Mohoje, 47th min):
Ran around and attempted to make a difference but, for the most part, looked lost.
    5/10

21 Cobus Reinach (on for Francois Hougaard, 56th min):
Looked better but Hougaard but did had no impact on the game.
    5/10

22 Pat Lambie (on for Pollard, 67th min):
Not enough time to be rated.

23 JP Pietersen (on for Cornal Hendricks, 50th min):
Scored a consolation try but was in the wilderness before that.
    4/10

I did not think Duane was that good. Had a quiet game imo.

Marcel was our best player follow closely by Oupa.

Front row did a fine job.

Our real weakness was Hougaard, apart from all his fumbles, his passing was terrible. Even though Cobus passed 100% better and more crisply he lacked in decision making. Really difficult to rate Pollard (who I still think is too green) when he gets such terrible service from his scrumhalf.

Lets be honest guys, on average this year the Springboks has not been a good team playing away.

Scraped a come from behind win in Argentina.
Lost in NZ (score flattered us imo.)
Lost a big lead in Aus to loose.
Got a royal hiding in Ireland.

Our win percentage away from home is 25% only beating the mighty Argentines (that one is for you nortie 🙂 )

  • 354

Another thing that bothered me yesterday is the fact that our wings and fullback where playing way out of position. They got so many balls behind us in the corners as I have not seen in many a year.

  • 355

    And I can’t understand Hougaard………..

He has got the game plan tattooed on his arms and he still can’t get it right 🙂

  • 356

    352 @ Snoek:
Hi Snoek thanks for the ratings, not seen any of the game yet or gone back through all the comments here, so they help to paint the picture.
Here is a quote I found on BBC : “Wow. Test rugby is good fun isn’t it? After watching the same old story with Wales, how refreshing that Ireland tore up the script.

The last match the Boks played saw them beat world champions New Zealand – only their second defeat in (what was then) 45 matches.

But even 15 QCs could not have mounted a defence as Ireland came up with today and it was that bodies-on-the-line commitment that laid the groundwork for their victory.”

  • 357

Anyway, let me rather not say anything against the coach………..

Even Ashwin last night got in trouble for suggesting he might be at fault at all……..

    @ MacroBok:

  • 360

    @ Nama:
Ek glo eerlikwaar nie janneman was so pateties nie. Hy was nou nie fenominal nie.
