@ Ben-die-Bok:
Die sewes spelers het so goeie impak gehad die laaste jaar, ek hoop ludeke gee die nuwe man Jamba Ulengo genoeg kans op vlueel.
751: kan dalk werk, Mastriet het ook baie goed gelyk by sewes, maar sukkel bietjie in 15 man kode.
Ek groet vir eers, gesels weer. Lekker slaap !
@ Ben-die-Bok:
Nag, lekker slaap
@ Ben-die-Bok:
Ek het weer gedink oor die CB speler van die jaar, as mens na die “stats” kyk is dit net moeilik om verby Kriel te kyk.
Meeste driee
Meeste verdedigers geklop
Meeste skoon breuke
Meeste turnovers
10e meeste tackles maar 95% success!

WP surprised me in final, deserved match but think Lions assisted their cause, made bad decisions and poor goal kicking. Surprised at Goosen inclusion in Bok group. If they keep him for FB great, if they play him ahead of Lambie and Pollard at FH think it will be step back. World Cup team squad going to be tough to pick. Kriel knocking on door, Arno and Alberts still due to return from injury. Really hope JdJ gets look in. Would love to have him and Serfontein as centre combination behind dominant pack.
Okay will go into Skop mode in this post.
This is my dream starting team for a world cup final against the AB’s:
1. Beast
2. Bissy
3. Coenie
4. Etzebeth
5. Matfield (c)
6. Flo
7. Coetzee
8. Thormeulen
9. FDP
10. Pollard
11. Habana
12. Janneman
13. JDJ
14. Kolbe
15. Goosen.
@ Jeraldjay:
Agree with most of team, one thing with world cup will be impact players. Start with Flip, Etzebeth. Matfield great but doesn’t add physical presence of FLip. Flip did well at 5 when he played there, with him and Etzebeth behind them front row wont struggle. Alberts/Flo starting with Burger/Arno impact players. Like Lambie as starting flyhalf. Really been unlucky but as good as Pollard with more experience. Kolbe too small to start as wing, JP still class act. Goosen should be good at FB, haven’t seen him play there. With his injury record Willie can start warming up before whistle blows. Still think Jannie deserves to start but needs good long rest. Would also start with Schalk Brits as hooker, don’t need scrumming strength of Bism with Flip and Etzebeth.
One thing not addressed is captain if JdV not there. Suggest either Flip or JdJ. Both done well at Provincial level
excellent player… good guy… great attitude…! well done Nemo…!
Nizaam Carr has realised his dream of becoming a Springbok after the No.8 was included in the year-end squad that will travel to the Northern Hemisphere.
His selection is warranted after being the stand-out player in the Stormers’ Super Rugby campaign as well as being pivotal to the success of Western Province winning the Currie Cup.
An emotional Carr said he rushed to the television at 11.30 on Monday morning for the announcement of the squad and, when he saw he had cracked the nod in Heyneke Meyer’s year-end squad, he nearly jumped a hole in floor.
“I didn’t know [if I was in the squad] until 11.30. I rushed to be in front of the TV and when i saw it [my name], i just jumped up and screamed to my mother ‘mommy, mommy I made it’. I probably jumped a hole in the floor because I jumped so high. It’s unbelievable.
“It’s really indescribable, I’m at a loss for words. It’s a dream come true. I’ve been waiting for this opportunity my whole life my whole life and have been working towards this,” he said.
Carr was given a taste of the Springboks culture in September, as they prepared for a Rugby Championship encounter against Australia in Cape Town, and used that opportunity to soak up as much as he could.
“Even though I was only there for one day, I took in as much as possible. Heyneke was very helpful in giving me advice, so I left that camp wanting to be in that setup.
“Being with the top players in the world to see how they operate and how the Bok system works was a massive learning curve. That’s how I see the upcoming tour as well. I just want to take in as much as possible and getting game time will be a bonus, I’m just happy to be part of the squad,” he added.
Known to his team mates as Neemo, he now joins a long list of players who have made the progression from the Varsity Cup into the Springbok setup and he feels it (Varsity Cup) is a great platform for up-and-coming players to gain valuable exposure.
“I think the platform created by the Varsity Cup is great because a lot of VC players are now playing Super Rugby. Look at Oupa Mahoje, at the beginning of the year he was the star player and now he is one of the best loose forwards in the country, and maybe even in the world. I have massive respect for the tournament,” he stated.
Neemo has not forgotten about the place where he began his career: his club side, Primrose RFC.
“It’s nice to know Primrose haven’t forgotten about me, I probably got 50 calls from the staff alone. They [Primrose] will always mean the world to me because it is, in a way, because of them that I am who I am today and they are definitely part of all my success,” he stated.
Primrose RFC President, Faaghier Gamieldien expressed his pride in having played a small part in the success of Carr’s career, having coached him during his age-group days.
“As a club, we are proud of his achievements. We always knew he would reach the highest level because of his work ethic and commitment.
“Everyone knows he was recruited by Bishops but before that, he played in our Under-14, U15 and U16 teams and I had the privilege of coaching him in those teams who went unbeaten for those three years.
“He has always been a Primrose person. Whenever he had a break from provincial duty, he would attend our games and, despite having all the expert coaches around him, he will always ask where he can make improvements to his game.
“He is seen as a role model and an icon to our youngsters and our community. His achievements gives them the motivation to reach for higher honours as well,” he said.

from planetrugby.com
With the Currie Cup now a thing of the past
Planet Rugby selects the players who
impressed us the most during the 2014
tournament.
Tournament winners Western Province and
runners-up, the Golden Lions, dominated
throughout the season, so it’s little surprise
that they also have the most representatives
in our side.
In the end we selected six WP players, five
Lions, three Bulls and a Shark.
XV of the Currie Cup
15 Cheslin Kolbe Western Province: – Was a
revelation with ball in hand and finished the
season with the most metres gained on
attack (1,050). A dangerous counter-attacker,
Kolbe was seldom caught out of position and
also did well on defence where he seldom
came off second best in the tackle.
14 Ruan Combrinck Golden Lions: – Was the
tournament’s joint second highest try-scorer –
alongside WP skipper Juan de Jongh – with
six tries but also impressed as a goal-kicker
and finished the season as the second highest pointscorer with 106
points. Edges out Sharks flyer S’bura Sithole .
13 Juan de Jongh Western Province: – He might not be in
Springboks coach Heyneke Meyer’s plans but his omission at Test
level has been a blessing in disguise for the Cape Town-based
side. Thrived with the extra responsibility as WP’s captain and his
experience was a calming influence which allowed his more
inexperienced back-line team-mates to flourish around him.
12 Andre Esterhuizen Sharks: – The Baby Boks stalwart cemented
his place in the Sharks midfield midway through the tournament
with some superb performances which coincided with a resurgence
in the Durban-based side’s fortunes. Although Esterhuizen didn’t
play during the early part of the Sharks campaign, his direct
approach saw him finishing second highest for defenders beaten
(14) for the entire competition. The Bulls’ Burger Odendaal also
impressed.
11 Seabelo Senatla Western Province: – There were doubts at the
start of the season whether Blitzbokke sensation could replicate his
superb Sevens form in the 15-man game but Senatla soon removed
all those doubts with several sparkling displays. His speed proved
to be his main weapon which made him one of the most potent
finishers in the competition.
10 Jacques Louis-Potgieter Blue Bulls: – The most difficult
selection as several players were in contention. WP’s Demetri
Catrakilis, the Sharks’ Lionel Cronje and Justin van Staden of the
Pumas all deserve mentions. But Potgieter gets the nod as he
helped the Bulls reach the semi-finals with his superb goal-kicking
and decision making. Finished as joint top pointscorer (123) for the
season with Catrakilis.
9 Nic Groom Western Province: – Grew in stature as the tournament
progressed and provided a slick service with his excellent passing
game which helped his outside backs to shine. Also varied his
game well by bringing his forwards in to play with clever offloads
and beats out Free State Cheetahs stalwart Sarel Pretorius who had
another good season.
8 Nizaam Carr Western Province: – Caught the eye on the flank
during the latter stages of the Stormers’ Super Rugby campaign but
took his game to another level in the number eight jersey for WP.
Carr’s excellent ball skills, flair and vision were impressive
throughout WP’s victorious campaign but he is also a phenomenal
defender who made the most tackles (200) in the competition.
Edges out Sharks skipper Tera Mtembu who led by example.
7 Michael Rhodes Western Province: – Impressed on attack and
defence with his aggressive, no-nonsense approach which created
a platform for his more creative team-mates to express
themselves. Although he’s a strong ball-carrier, Rhodes’ defence
was what caught the eye and he completed the second most
tackles (181) behind Carr during the tournament.
6 Jaco Kriel Golden Lions: – He might have finished on the losing
side in the final but must be a shoe-in for the Currie Cup’s Player
of the tournament award. Kriel epitomises everything that’s good
about the Lions’ season. He plays the game at a high pace and
intensity, and was the tournament’s leading the try-scorer with nine
tries and topped the statistics for the most clean breaks (13) and
defenders beaten (18).
5 Franco Mostert Golden Lions: – An old fashioned lock who did the
dirty work at the coalface of the Lions’ forward effort. Mostert also
impressed in the line-outs and beats out the Bulls’ Grant Hattingh
who also shone with his aerial skills.
4 Paul Willemse Blue Bulls: – The Grenoble-bound second-row’s
game has come on in leaps and bounds and his physicality was a
sight to behold at times. A fearless ball-carrier and tackler, who
also cleans out the rucks with great ferocity, Willemse edges out
the Sharks’ Stephen Lewies .
3 Julian Redelinghuys Golden Lions: – Started most of the Lions’
matches on the replacements bench as Ruan Dreyer’s back-up but
but destroyed most of his direct opponents in the scrums when he
came on to the field. Tighthead is a position where South Africa
has had little depth in recent years and Redelinghuys’ selection for
the Springboks is a just reward after a fine season.
2 Robbie Coetzee Golden Lions: – Made a huge impact during the
Lions’ run to the final, especially as a ball carrier and a strong
scrummaging hooker. Also accurate with his throw-ins at the line-
outs and edges out the Sharks’ Kyle Cooper and WP’s Scarra
Ntubeni.
1 Dean Greyling Blue Bulls: – Although the men from Pretoria
delivered a mixed bag of results this season, the Springbok prop
has impressed throughout their campaign. Greyling held his own in
the scrums and he also impressed on defence, especially at the
fringes of the rucks and mauls. His ball winning ability, however,
has been superb and he beats out more fancied pilferers like Kriel
and Bulls skipper Deon Stegmann as the player who won the most
turnovers during the season with 13 steals.
I have to say I mostly agree except with jacque louis poitgieter
Div is just too much…
