Robbie Coetzee, Carr, Redelinghuys, Senatla and Kriel in the squad.

Will be interesting to see what people will complain about today? 😆

    dom fokker epos fuhrer?

  • 633

    Forgot the smiley 😀

    @ Angostura:

lol.. as far as I know things did not work out so well for him in the WC and he is back living in England … relatively penniless but still as fiery as ever and at least he has his lovely wife from Africa to help him get through the dreary winter days in England 🙂

    Juan de Jongh?

Mind you, perhaps it’s better to stay home in sunny CT then to carry tackle bags in Europe during their winter.

btw I see Tiaan liebenberg has retired ..

Hmmm if there are any complaints from my side, it is that Matfield is the only no.5

4 fly halves but 3 scrumhalves (for an away tour), maybe even only 2 scrumhalves.

I understand why Steenkamp is there, but I have no idea why Morne is being dragged along.

    @ MacroBlouBul:
A good squad overall. Reward for some players who showed good form throughout the season. Not too many complaints except for the fact that the best outside centre in the country, for the last 3 years at least, still cannot make the squad.

Apart from Oupa and Gurthro, I don’t think people like Hondo can complain too much about the inclusion of the players of colour. They all deserve to be there. Some others, like Lodewyk de Jager, Johan Goosen, Coenie, Morne and Ruan not so much

JJE being put to pasture. Wonder if he’ll get paid till after the RWC next year.

  • 638

    @ MacroBlouBul:

They will say they are just making up the numbers.

Which is what happens in a squad.

    😆

  • 639

    @ robzim:
Why do you assume it is better to stay at home over touring with the Springboks? I also think training methods have moved far along from holding tacklebags all day.

I think JDJ might be the most disappointed player, but is is no surprise. Also maybe even Stephen Lewies.

    @ Nama:
For the last year at the most

  • 641

GBS and Nortie must be too busy

I hope Meyer makes use of rotation on this tour, but I also hope he accepts winning at all costs is a priority, ESPECIALLY the English game.

  • 643

On closer look, it does not make sense to take 5 wings (all POC’s) and 3 loose head props (all POC’s) on a 4-match tour.

While the percentages may look good afa the squad is concerned, it still does not hide the fact that we are busy with window dressing.

  • 644

    @ MacroBok:

    In his opinion.

  • 645

    @ Nama:
which other poc’s would you suggest then?

  • 646

    643 @ Nama:
That is exactly why the proposed minimum of 5 P’sOC on the field, at provincial level, makes sense to me. It will force provinces to cast their nets wider than just having two P’sOC at wing.

  • 647

    @ Nama:
It is a minimum of 8 by 2019

  • 648

    or no it is 7

  • 649

    Good squad!
    I’m not complaining, but:

Why 4 flyhalfs? Rather have included Juan de Jongh in Morne Steyn’s stead.

Sjoe, Gurthro Steenkamp & Coenie Oosthuizen? Rather have gone for the Lions duo Schalk v/d Merwe & Ruan Dreyer.

Also somewhat surprised that HM did not continue to “invest in Scarra’s development”.

But no one is ever 100% satisfied when it comes to a 36/7-man squad, ne?

    GO BOKKE!

  • 650

    640 @ MacroBok:
Make it the last 2 years then or who would you say was the best 13 in the country last year? In 2012 it was probably Ebersohn.

  • 651

    647 @ MacroBok:
5 on the field at all times.

  • 652

    @ Nama:
Well you dont get the reputation of kanipass for no reason 😀

  • 653

congratulations to nizaam, seabelo, jaco, robbie and julian… all richly deserved for the hard work and great form over the year…

otherwise pretty predictable squad and no real complaints…

but have to feel for juan…
on form over the last couple of years… and this season in particular… he really does deserve to be there… very tough on the young man…

  • 654

I think Goosen at FB will be a pretty decent experiment.

  • 655

    653 @ ufo:

Yeah, pity about JDJ’s non selection.

He had an excellent season and has embraced the leadership role.

Unfortunately the highs are very high and the lows are very low for professional athletes.

He has to dust himself off and start from scratch.

  • 656

    @ MacroBok:
That is a name that YOU gave him. Not much substance in that claim if you think back to how many times he was the one to make the last pass before the try was scored.

While it was a weakness of his in the past, he did work on it and improved a lot in that regard.

Maybe you’ll be so good and post us the stats wrt his passing in this year’s SR and where he was ranked?

  • 657

    655 @ Jeraldjay:

    indeed JJ…
very high… winning the cc one day as captain… very low… not making the bok squad the next… gotta be very tough…
but as you say… his only choice is to pick himself up… dust himself off… and carry on playing as well as he has been all year…
life is a funny thing… things can change quickly…
but we have to be prepared and ready to take and make the most of opportunities as they present themselves…
so he must really just stay positive and carry on here he left off…
and continue to make it really difficult to be ignored…

  • 658

    654 @ MacroBok:
The Boks are not the place for experiments.

  • 659

    @ Nama:
Yeah your right the Stormers were real try scoring machines 😆

“While it was a weakness of his in the past, he did work on it and improved a lot in that regard.”
    So you admit it?

I agree wholeheartedly that JDJ has been great this year, I have said this countless times, even in this thread.

But to say he has been this good for at least the last three years is really stretching it, when 2 of those years he spent being pretty average in SR apart from his defense. He improved immensely this year.

  • 660

    @ Nama:
Goosen has mostly played in the back three with Johnny Sexton being one of the most expensive players in the world at flyhalf…

so its not a “new” experiment.
