  • 158

    17 runs from wides

  • 159

    Hoeveelste wide is daardie ? 18de ?

  • 160

Die krieket is amper so swak soos die rugby

  • 161

Ok wel die veldwerk van albei spanne

  • 162

  • 165

    Nou vir more se rugby,

    168: Lekker slaap, tot more.

Well done the Kings & the Dolphins!

    170 Good morning night owls

    @ ryecatcher:

    Good morning, rye

Night owl, early bird – both of those apply depending on circumstances.

My dogs wake me whenever nature calls (& sometimes just because they seek attention), & then I have to take them outside; also, my wife is in the entertainment business & works odd hours with the result that whilst some people work shifts, I tend to ‘sleep in irregular, intermittent shifts’ 🙂

You ready for the Sharks victory?

I’m not likely to see much rugby today.

My son is leaving for the UK tomorrow, & I’m going to spend some time with him today as he brews his final batch of Natal Ale; & tonight it is off to my brother for a dinner party, but I was shocked to learn that my boet has lost interest in local rugby & is now more interested in UK/Euro soccer [BARF!] … ai tog.

    @ Angostura:
    hey Angos,

    Congrats on the kings win.

dont get as wrong bud, but did you really find that game so enjoyable? The referee was poor also the helter skelter rugby there at the end was from both teams poor basic handling skills, the pewmas even missed a kick from right under the goal posts. The really was not a “classic” no matter how many eyes you have and if you think it was such a great game it is your opinion and you are welcome to it.

I dont understand what the dolphins comment was about, we all praised the quality of mornes innings, but both teams bowled pretty poorly, and dropping morne twice is most definitely not great cricket as well as bowling all those wides.

    @ MacroBlouBul:

    Kings Victory:

The match produced 7 good tries – check the highlights if you didn’t notice.

As for missing a kick from in front of the posts, that does not reduce the whole game to poor rugby. This does happen in rugby, without damning the contest to inferior: Case in point the 2007 SR final, which you & your cronies love to luxuriate in, where “Mr Wunderkind Image Rights” missed a sitter conversion to make the game safe & then on full time also failed to kick out the ball, gifting possession to the Bulls which led to the Bulls’winning try in the 83rd minute. In last night’s game Justin van Staden, despite missing the conversion, had a good all round game, & even scored a try from a line break. Your predisposition (glass half empty) appears from the fact that you harp on Van Staden’s missed kick, while you fail to mention that Van Aswegen kicked a difficult, pressure kick in the final minutes (a la Lambie) to secure an improbable victory.

Both the Pumas & the Kings played attacking rugby, the former in pursuit of a bonus point victory which would provide a slim chance of qualifying for the play-offs, the latter in order to secure victory in order to salvage some pride in an otherwise woeful season. In the circumstances handling errors are to be expected.

On the night, the Kings’ no-name forwards were far superior to those of the Pumas, & the Kings dominated possession, territory & play & were far better than the mere 1 point victory suggests.

The game was indeed exciting, with fluctuating fortunes, 7 good tries, & in an endeavour to secure a victory that was important to both teams, the outcome was determined right at wire.

    Dolphins’ Victory

Short form cricket is a batsman’s game. Bowlers often get taken to the cleaners & that is part of the format. Wides bowled & catches dropped are often symptomatic of batsmen putting bowlers and fielders under pressure as they put their opponents to the sword in pursuit of victory. Fact remains, you and your mates thought the match was won & lost after the Titan’s innings, only to be disillusioned by the Dolphin’s batting. This is not poor cricket – it is a famous victory.

Give credit where it is due, not just to teams you support.

    @ Angostura:
Angos you guys are extremely sensitive for no reason at all, why are you making this a “provinsialism” matter, while I still maintain that overall it was a poor game, it is not like the Blue bulls have played any better in the currie cup this year. The last 5 minutes of the games was certainly interesting, but we still had to watch 75 minutes to get there.

I have no sworn allegiance to any cricket team, as far as I am considered all the franchises are only there to see who is back up to the proteas, I have absolutely no emotional investment to any Titans win or loss. Morne played well, what more do you want from me? but the drop catches were poor, as well as the ground fielding from the Dolphins. as well as the 17 wides the Titans bowled.

  • 176

It was an absolute wonder of a game this, I doubt the rest of this weekends rugby would live up to the high standard of the Kings vs Pumas game.
