Julle sal nou se ek is uit de oude doos, maar die laaste Springboklosskakels wat takties kon skop was Naas en Errol.
Ek het Naas sien oefen op Loftus saam met sy nefie Hendrik Kruger en Johan Heunis; Hendrik moes die balle gaan optel!
Naas het onder andere n handdoek langs die veld en op verskillende ander strategiese plekke geplaas, en dan probeer om die bal tot op daai doek te skop…terwyl hy hardloop met die bal! En hy was ongelooflik akkuraat daarmee.
So het hy in 1986 teen die Kavaliers n klomp doelskoppe teen die paal was geskop, dis hoe hy geoefen het, hy het die paal probeer raakskop met stelskoppe.
Maar daai manne het ure aaneen geoefen totdat hulle dit regkry.

Vandag oefen die top ouens ook baie, soos Wilko was altyd eerste op die oefenveld en laaste weg, insluitend Kersdag.
En dan het hulle nou sogenaamde skop afrigters ook.
En moenie vergeet, vandag se balle is darem seker makliker om te skop as daai ou swaar leer balle waarmee ons gespeel het nie

Ja, is so. Ek ken nie die nuwe bal nie, al wat ek weet die ou viernaat SuperSpringbok leerbal was n bokker in die Kaapse natweer, veral op velde soos by Villagers in Brookside met daai swart turfgrond, bal weeg omtrent 5 kg aan die einde van die wedstryd. Nat trui was net so swaar…
