The Ozzie that tackled Beast at the back of that attacking line out was offside. Bad mistake by the ref. the Ozzie first try was also not a try. Bad decision by the TV ref.
But I don’t blame the ref. We are our own worst enemies; to scared to play the game properly. The AB are ahead off the rest of the world because they are prepared to challenge themselves to be better; to become better and be better than they ever were. They are leading world rugby not because they want beat SA and the rest of the world but because they want to play the perfect game. They measure themselves against themselves -by how they play- and not by who they win.
It’s not the fact that we lost here that upset me most it is the fact that our rugby is showing no improvement. I would have been unhappy with this performance even if we did won the match.
I take everything back about Marcel Coetzee and him not having the mongrel for the test rugby.
Liked that loose combo.
At least we are looking likely to beat the Aussies in the cricket
Moving on from the poor performance……..I think match officials need to be heavily penalized by the refereeing panel in the post match analysis because they contribute such a key impact on the game via crucial errors. Today, the sending off of Habana(AFTER THE SAME OFFENCE EARNED A DIFFERENT RESULT) swung the game and ultimately influenced the result. Vermeulen’s tackle was also blatantly poor and the resultant penalty awarded the winning side points they had not earned. I’m not making excuses for the poor Springbok performance and game plan. I’m merely pointing out facts which have a tendency to ruin a game for everyone.
@ McLook: Well said Piet. Couldn’t put it into words better boeta.
@ Tassies:
Spot on! Well put…these morons have the joy and hopes of millions riding on their decisions, not to mention the $s.
@ cane: That’s a bit too simplistic Cane for my liking. Loyal to a game plan that doesn’t work maybe. But coaching players to kick the ball after they have engaged their brain is probably expecting too much from our coach.
Out two halfbacks cost us the game as much as anything else. And they are both selected and indoctrinated into doing what they do by the coach. Receive the ball and kick before you have considered any other option. Absolutely any other option. And continue to kick it poorly too. That’s where the execution comes in. They simply couldn’t do it. and its not the first time either. Pienaar is particularly good at kicking aimlessly and poorly. And yet we’ll see him back next week doing exactly the same. How dumb can one get? Honestly.
Problem with HM is that his game plan in key areas are the individuals that play their.
If Victor, Morne and FDP are not playing against the big boys we farked.
this game was lost in the substitutions… imo… and that must fall squarely at the feet of heyneke…
i do not agree with these substitutions for no reason… just because we feel sorry for the guys getting pins and needles in their derrières… 🙄
eben was having his best game since coming back from injury… flo was huge… as usual… taking them off was a big mistake… lood was found wanting in the defensive and physical stakes in the last game… and when aus were pushing towards the end of the game… especially one man down… we needed etz and flo’s physical presence…
we were on top and handling everything auz threw at us… why the hell make substitutes at all in such a game…?
bismarck carried on where adriaan left off…
but all the other subs were…
subs-tandard…
no excuses from me about the ref… we should never have let it get to the point where the ref could make any difference… as naas says… play the ref out of the game…
congrats auz on a fine win…
still don’t know why they don’t start with higgenbotham… he brings some steel to the auz pack and game…
Kak game plan, kak rugby, kak result.
Our fool of a coach will probably tell us that the “execution” of the game plan was not spot on. Where was that “character” of the Boks, that they’ve been building the last month, when they needed it?
Well done Australia.
The only positive that I can see coming out of this game is that hopefully HM will see the error of his ways and change the way we play. But I’m not so sure he will. Next week we’ll play the same kak rugby…and the game after that…and the game after that…
It was always meant to be a close Test, the odds were on the Wallabies at 1 to 1.05 at the kickoff, imagine
The Ref did an honest job, kept the Wallabies in the game throughout, I had a difficult decision to make before the Test, in the end it was was vindicated 😉
One concern is that the Wallabies scrum pushed the Boks backward on 3 occasions, I just wonder if Pienaar was to blame for it too?
😆
Choked at the death?
Have read all the comments & all I can say is “bad luck guys”.

Give credit to Steve Walsh when credit’s due 😉
He did the same last year in Argentina as well,,,,

I guess the Beast IS a ‘Springbok material’? 9by default)
just asking 😉
@ Hondo:
How can your decision be “difficult” if you know the result before the game starts via your bookies?
What’s your opinion on Janneman’s performans at 13 today? Juan de Jong would be a much better option, don’t you think?

Maybe time for new LHs, THs too?
There is no hiding from the embarrassment when a Wallabies scrum pushed the Boks backward?
So, it also seems as if Lodewyk de Jager is not so “world class” after all, as was claimed after his very good test in June.

At 1:1.05 odds, that’s a touch and go either way, the Wallabies are bad too btw
Yep, both Props must go, along with JdV, Big Vic et al
I’ll take JdJ over those two palukas centres, I’ll give that to you,
however
F. Styen, Ebersohn or B. Meyer are ahead of him my pecking order
Matfield in general play.
Was he even there or did he only go onto the field at line out time?
@ Nama:
Not a bad player Lodewyk, but it’s obvious his defense won’t be up to scratch, he plays for the Cheetahs, a team renowned for having the worst defense in SR
@ Hondo:
How much would I have won today?
I picked the Wallabies to win by 2 points

How much defence has Matfield shown over the years?

Many asked themselves same question
@ nortierd:
I like Lodewyk. He’s a good player as you say but some of us tend to exaggerate when a player has a good game against weak opposition. He still has a long way to go to be considered “world class” imo.
Did Lambie play at flank when Habana came on for the last 2 minutes?
9. Reinagh
10. Pienaar
11. Habana
12. JdV
13. JdJ
14. Hendricks
15. Le Roux
Select that back line and play WITH the ball (instead of this kicking possession away) and we may have a chance next week.
Our defence and our forwards will probably keep us in the game next week but we need something extra if we want to win the game. If we dish up the same game next week, we’ll lose again. Only by a bigger margin this time around.

Not much more of a confidence booster for the ‘investor’
I play the range so I was 2-4, I got back about 24 cents on each Rand , big deal 🙁
Do you believe that JW may tailor new suits or should he wait for next week?
😉
Reinach
297 @ Hondo:
White doesn’t need suits, he is like the Emperor in his new suit 😉
Not even picking Tera as captain will get him the Bok job again, and Cheika will be on the better country’s shopping list before they approach him.
He can stay down at the Sharks, it’s a good match for us non Shark supporters

Some in that backline will have to make tackles vs Nomu, Ben Smith and Savea, have you thought that over?
