The allegations were believed to revolve around unauthorised benefits being handed to at least one senior staff member.

KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union president Graham Mackenzie confirmed the official’s suspension, but could not disclose any details.

An inquiry is currently on the go and the official has the right to appeal against an unfavourable ruling.

Meanwhile, the Sharks are currently fourth on the Currie Cup log after a 30-30 draw with the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein at the weekend.
