OK, a special for the Ex-Voldy bloggers… we will keep this Hore Thread ALIVE for a while.. so go ahead, get your records!!
Former All Blacks hooker Andrew Hore has answered an S.O.S. to come out of retirement and provide injury cover for Southland.
The loss of veteran hooker Jason Rutledge has left the Stags with problems in the middle of their front row.
That saw skipper Jamie Mackintosh put a call in to his mate Hore to twist his arm to help out in Invercargill.
Rugby Heaven
And it seems to have worked. The Stags have confirmed Hore is training with their squad, but will only get involved in match play if one of their two remaining hookers gets injured.
Hore retired from top rugby last year after 83 tests for the All Blacks, though he has played matches for the British Barbarians and a World XV this year against international sides.
Hore’s previous NPC play has been with Taranaki and Otago.
The Stags have gotten off to a good start in this year’s NPC, with wins over Bay of Plenty and North Harbour.
They host neighbours Otago on Saturday.

Try and make the game – We can still do a beer after the game as well – there’s no need to complicate things – we’re just a phone call away.

Whitely steps into Alberts’ shoes
Cape Town – Willem Alberts has been ruled out of the Springboksâ Rugby Championship tour to Australia and New Zealand and will be replaced in the 30-man squad by Warren Whiteley.
Alberts missed both Test victories against Argentina because of a hamstring injury and he underwent a fitness test on Thursday afternoon. Although his hamstring is recovering well, he experienced some nerve irritation in his lower back and was sent for scans.
âWillem requires further investigation of the symptoms and will see a number of specialists to determine the optimal management plan to get him back performing on the field as soon as possible,â said Springbok team doctor Craig Roberts.
Whiteley, who toured with the Springboks to Argentina last week, will join the team in Johannesburg on Friday morning.
Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer said that although Juan Smith was on standby, the player requested more time to work on his match fitness.
âJuan has very high standards and he wasnât happy with his performance in Salta,â said Meyer.
âWarren really impressed me last week, heâs been playing very well and it made sense to get him back in. Like Willem, he is very effective with ball in hand and also a great option at the back of the lineout.
âMore importantly, Warren is a natural No 8, which is a position where we need cover, but he can play flank as well.â
The Springboks play Australia in Perth on 6 September at 12:05 (SA time) and take on New Zealand in Wellington the weekend thereafter at 09:35.
The squad will prepare in Johannesburg before their departure to Western Australia on Saturday.
