I’m tasting whisky this afternoon:
I’ve noticed local whiskies, Bain’s & (certain offerings of) Three Ships, have been winning International Whisky awards, & I have never tasted the local tipple.
So I’m having some Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky & Three Ships Special Release Bourbon Cask Finish Whisky, and tasting it against a regular Bell’s Blended Whisky.
1. Locally Bain’s is the most expensive, Bell’s the cheapest
2. Bain’s has a flowery bouquet, reminiscent of a good Irish whiskey, & the bouquet of Bell’s is the most reserved
3. Bain’s is smoothest on the palate & complex on the aftertaste; in comparison both Bell’s & Three Ships are relatively harsh on the taste with a pronounced prominence of alcohol on the aftertaste.
Personal fwiw opinion:
Bain’s a good ‘un (never realised a safrikan whisky could be this good) – worthy of support by saffas
