Western Province have their fair share of exciting young talent but manager Bobby Joubert is looking to Earl Rose for that added quality at the World Club 7’s.
Rose is the experienced head among Joubert’s charges, who head to Twickenham this weekend seeking to improve on their showing at the 2013 tournament.
The 30-year-old is a veteran of Currie Cup and Super Rugby and was selected in the Springboks squad for the British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa in 2009.

He has also spent time in the South Africa Sevens setup and Joubert is hoping to see the Western Province veteran guide his junior teammates through the tournament.
And he is enjoying the early signs ahead of the Twickenham showpiece after Rose impressed in last weekend’s Limerick Sevens competition.
“Earl Rose is an important player for us as he gives us much needed experience and moves well in all situations,” said Joubert.
“In moist and wet conditions, like in Limerick, he has got a good boot on him to get us out of trouble and his decision making is fantastic.”
“We are also looking forward to how Jason Kriel, who has moved down to Cape Town to continue his development, and Frederick Miller will perform. They are very exciting youngsters to watch.”
Western Province endured a difficult time in last year’s World Club 7’s – the inaugural edition – eventually clinching an 11th-place finish with victory over Northampton Saints.
However, the results did not diminish Western Province’s experience at Rugby HQ and Joubert is relishing a return to Twickenham and upping their performances.
“The World Club 7’s is a very well organised tournament – everything is in place and the facilities are perfect,” he added. “We are looking forward to the competition and it would mean a lot to win the overall.”
“We have taken our 7’s rugby up a notch and have started using it as a development process in the Western Cape. After doing well in Limerick we need to do well in London.”

Oh dear is our nightmare weekend against WP going to continue, see the Blue Bulls and WP have been drawn to meet in Cup Quarter Final at the 7s today in London.
From the play I saw yesterday WP should be favourites to beat Blue Bulls, hopefully not. Although WP did spend a lot of their games on defence and then got many tries on the counter attack so maybe we can exploit this, only thing is it is a young and not very physical Blue Bulls team so potentially vulnerable to strong running at them.
WP vs Blue Bulls set for 13.24 kick off, so I guess that is 14.24 SA time, says the 7s will be broadcast on Supersport but not sure what channel. Will not be able to follow this like yesterday afternoon, pity. GO BLUE BULLS!
