The South African Rugby Union (SARU) has reportedly broken a confidentiality clause after CEO Jurie Roux was shown a forensic report which implicates him in fraud.

According to reports, this comes after SARU president Oregan Hoskins promised not to show the report, which belongs to the University of Stellenbosch, to any party.

The university had requested the forensic investigation after suspicious transactions between the Maties Rugby Club and the university were found.

Roux was earlier investigated by the Scorpions for possible fraud which stems from his days as chairperson of the Maties Rugby Club. He was also the university’s senior director of finance and asset management.

It is reported that SARU had asked the University for a transcript of the forensic report. It was decided that the report would become known to SARU, but that it would not be shown to anyone else.

In an E-mail to SARU, the University expressed its dissatisfaction after the report was apparently shown to Roux.

Hoskins said SARU take the allegations against Roux very seriously and they will give him the opportunity to explain the allegations against him.

Hoskins said his lawyers advised him to hand over the report to Roux’s lawyers.

The allegations against Roux are believed to be the unlawful financing of rugby players’ class fees.

Roux has been the CEO of SARU since 2010.

SARU-BAAS GEE SLEUTELBEWYSE AAN BESKULDIGDE

Hoskins ‘breek belofte’

  • Dat die US rugbyspelers se studiegeld, verblyf- en ander koste onregmatig gefinansier het;

And, once again, SARU involved in another new scandal.
    What’s new?
Maybe Fransie had a point, seems like promises mean nothing to these people

    1 @ nortierd:
Hoskins is not a man of his word, this is clear affirmation of it… he speaks with forked tongue… and now it seems he promises with forked tongue too!

If he says “Good morning”, then rather look out the window first where the sun sits!

I do not trust him one bit!

Jurie Roux…. well… one wonders why the bloody Hawks investigation has not reached the stage where decisions will be made to either charge the choppie or not! The lapse of time says a lot about how serious the Hawks take this or how hard they are trying to sweep this under the carpet, somehow…. take your pick as to which applies!

Fact is, Roux needs to be suspended pending this investigation if SARU is to have any bone of honesty and accountability left!

    @ grootblousmile:

Nobody gets suspended during an investigation.

Number one has set the precedent.

  • 4

    @ gunther:

    Not in this country.

    😆

    Not in my world 😀
But, it also has some pro’s, nice fat civil claims when all the allegations fall flat.

    @ grootblousmile:
GBS, does seem like it. Pinocchio reincarnated

“The Kings’ inclusion in Super Rugby WILL NOT be at the expense of any existing franchise.”

    Farken liars.

If you listen to that Jurie guy, let alone believed him then you have only yourself to blame 😆

It’s been an on going story last 18 months already, not sure if there was an investigation at all, allegations only
In the first place, you had to ask yourself what a Stelenbosch groomed, up and coming blue eyes lad is doing with that despicable, corrupted quota watch gang?
    Kapish? 😉

Suspicious transactions between the Rugby Club and the University relating to the financing of certain players’ fees?

Sounds like more of an internal issue to me. I was under the impression that Roux benefitted financially.

It would be interesting to get the full detail.

Whatever the real magnitude of the funds’ embezzlement by Jurie Boy, we’ll never find out, you might be naive enough to believe otherwise 😆
It’s a classic case of an unhappy participant(s) in the scam who didn’t get his share and who went on to blow the whistle on poor Jurie, 😆
If Jurie was a Hoskin or an ‘ethnic’ no one would be bothered, after all Billions of Rands are ‘channeled’ to private hands every month in the Public and the Gov sectors, it’s the involvement of a ‘lily white’ who is an outsider that brought it to the public attention
The sums involved are peanuts compared,,,

  • 10

    @ Hondo:
    Nonsense.

You read every day in the newspapers about scams in which an “ethnic” is involved. Just admit that a “lily white” can also be skelm.

They can’t suspend Jurie now. He still hs to make sure that brother HM gets an extension of at least two years on his contract.

Well done Zim on a good fight in the test.

Congrats Amla and co. May the good times roll.

Great debut for Piedt. 8 wickets in the match (2 innings’). That’s just one less than the 9 that Tahir got in the last 7 innings’ in which he bowled. That include bowling on wickets in Dubai, Galle an Colombo.

    @ gunther:
    If you say so. 😉

  • 15

    @ Nama:

    Of course
When they could they did, under the watch of Barend Dup and De Kock the NP honchos ‘channeled’ abroad Billions from 1984 to 1994 without a trace
Remember Sol Kertzner and Pik B story?

  • 16

    @ Nama:

    Piedt looked great.

He’s certainly better although he’s playing against Zim on a raging turner if he can’t get wickets here…..

But he certainly looks the business nice variations and looks to have a good head on his shoulders. Hopefully he becomes the spinner we’ve been looking for these last few decades.
Weren’t you advocating they hold him back ?

    😆

  • 17

@ Hondo:I’d rather come across as naiive than cynical.

Still I would like to know the details of the allegations against him.

He did a great job in many respects while at Maties, this issue aside, so I will try and remain objective until the details are made public.

He does have a duty to respond to the allegations as a public officer though. As you will know, it’s not always what it is but what it is seen to be that counts 😉

  • 18

    @ gunther:
Happy with Piedt, and about the opposition, Philander and Morkel are much more experienced, so they should be killing Zim, yet Piedt took more wickets. excited about Piedt, but hope he knows this is going to get much more difficult, especially at home.

  • 19

    @ MacroBok:

Don’t me wrong he had a great debut.

What assurance would you have that the ‘details made public’ aren’t falsified ? 😆
    or
what would be the integrity and the competency of the ‘investigators’?
Jurie Boy has served his purpose and now his time is up for whatever reason, he chooses to dance with the wolves, now he is mauled 😉

  • 21

    @ gunther:
Still think that he should’ve played a couple of seasons more 1st class cricket before being unleashed in the test arena but we are desperate, not so?

Hope it is not a repeat of the Paul Adams situation where he is thrown into test cricket, has some early success and then fizzles out after 4/5 years on the test scene.

  • 22

    @ Nama:
    Desperate we are.

He seems to have a good head on his shoulders though . Batting looks handy too!

  • 23

    @ Nama:

Paul Adams was great and re-invented himself now as a coach.

Even though he had a bowling action like an octopus having a shower. 😀

I think this new kid has tremendous potential – and he has a decent coach in gogga himself.

  • 24

    @ Nama:
He seems to be in prime form now since last seasons first class cricket, so why not pick him? he could well lose form, but that could happen at the cobras as well in the next season or two, then he will never get a chance.

He was not only the best spin bowler but the best domestic bowler last year and it is not like there is a spinner in the team holding down a spot anyway…

Let him keep playing the Sunfoil Series and keep riding the wave till the West indies are here and give him a shot.

  • 25

…best bowler regarding wickets taken… Kyle abott was rdiculous

  • 26

    @ MacroBok:

And Marchant de Lange – 2 tests, 9 wickets, best BBI 7/81

Yes we are spoilt for choice for pace. Nice to see the same happening with the spinners. And I’m glad we have spinners – and not turners.

  • 27

    @ gunther:
Yeah. I see Neil Manthorp has taken quite a liking to the young man.

    @ IAAS:
Piedt actually gives a lo of credit to Claude Henderson for his success. Not sure where he plays a role wrt his coaching.

    @ MacroBok:
I’m always a bit wary to give a guy a spot in the national team after one good season. We’ve done that in the past and it rarely, if ever, led to long term success.

But as I’ve said, we are desperate for a decent, if not match winning, spinner. Let’s hope he is the one we were looking for.

In the meantime, Ronaldo just scored his 2nd goal in the Super Cup.

  • 28

    @ Nama:
“We’ve done that in the past and it rarely, if ever, led to long term success. ”

Well Steyn got his place because he was fast, he had a tough time at the start but came back and blew everyone away as a smarter bolwer.

I think because we do not really have a spinner, it is worth the experiment to try Piedt, yet be smart enough just to pick a spinner when we can pick 4 pacers if needed. Thats why it is much harder for Hendricks and Abott to crack the team, rightly so.

Wonder what the plan is with Harmer though, is he completely forgotten now?

  • 29

… oh the point i was trying to make that I mention Steyn, is hopefully Piedt has what is takes upstairs to have long term success.

  • 30

    @ MacroBok:
Yes, Harmer was touted as “the next one to try”. Hope they’ll not totally forget about developing him. He did have some success in the “test” for the SA “A” side against their against Aus counterparts last week. Harmer and Piedt in tandem on the sub continent?

That is if Robbie P is totally out of the reckoning because I think that he still has a role to play. He’s had a very good few years before he was dropped.
