@ Charo: Its actually a salmon. I shot one of 60lbs off Ansteys beach when I was in matric. Kept us in beers for 2 months. Sold it for R15 1969.
@ 4man:
Which part of west Africa and doing what?
You know I spent some good years in Ghana and Nigeria?

Was that last last one in the entire world at that price? 😮
@ 4man:
Actually a daga salmon in kzn but the smaller ones also known a kob.
Running late for my tee time.
Go Oz although have a draw on superbru.
@ Charo:
That is correct. Enjoy your round. Catch you later.
@ MacroBok:
We used to sell crayfish (kreef) at 35c a lb those days. R5 for a weekend and that paid for the jol on Friday and Saturday night, plus petrol in the bike. But I was making about R100 a month with my diving. Used to sell to the old Roma and Pink Panther restaurants, my main clients. We used to murder the bugs, diving at night with scuba on a reef and take over 200lbs in a night. I feel very guilty about that these days. Sharks were always interested in the lights.
@ Charo:
I’m in Nigeria.
@ 4man:
A man has to do what he has to for survival, sounds like a good adventure, that side of Durban is only a distant memory now.
@ MacroBok: Ja China….I bailed 2006. With hindsight I should have left 20 years earlier.
@ 4man:
How long have you been in West Africa? I must admit, the place fascinates me, but I would never have to balls to go there.
@ 4man:
I was there last year though, it was not too bad… those beaches still have almost no comparison in south africa.
@ MacroBok: Coming up to 2 years full time and a previous year where I was in and out all the time consulting. Lots of money to be made. They respect and like South Africans who they don’t regard as real expats. There are probably about 30,000 of us here now. Been a real eye opener for me, I pretty much had your attitude previously. The other day one of my staff on seeing the difficulty the guy was having who I was negotiating with because I wasn’t acting like a normal caucasian from the west, made a comment “ah….don’t worry, scratch his skin and you’ll find a black man”. I found that comment highly interesting. Saffers work well in Africa….we understand it and the people. Nigerians are bloody clever and the work ethic is very high. Where they come short is practical experience, the ability to plan, complete and follow through…succinctly.
@ 4man:
Pretty much in a nutshell.
Only the desperately disfigured beg, the rest try to make a living somehow.
