Classics !

Cheers Gummi, wil drop you a mail next week about the studies

Fark, I’d rather support the Sharks than wash cars, mow the lawn or do shopping!

For a while I considered what was worse though…. hehehe

Kan Chester gewees het ja, maar daai was n wonderlike pass wat niks mee fout was nie
    😀

  • 342

339…ons het wp 39-3 gewen daai dag

  • 343

340: hehehe, dink dit was Andre Watson se call, weet nie of TMO’s al gebruik is daardie tyd nie. Maar as onafhanklike objektiewe rugby ondersteuner het vir my gelyk na so 4 voet vorentoe.

  • 344

342: was dit nie in 1981 nie ?

  • 345

    341 @ Ben:

Tyd sal leer.

    @ nortierd:
    Morning Notier.
Looking at the replay of yesterday’s power display by the Sharks, I think we can conclude that “size” does indeed matter !
I am referring to your timely article yesterday as it has a direct bearing on the vicious 19 point thrashing of the Stormers we witnessed at Newlands. The smaller Stormer back-line were out-gunned by sheer size and raw power combined, Jordaan being the only lightweight

  • 349

(Contd.) Aplon was maybe the exception, but he is in a class of his own (with the likes of Cullen, Robinson,Shane Williams, Willie le Roux, Grant Batty, Brent Russell….) Juan de Jong was just plain useless, unable to read the space available to his supporting speedsters, and crashing into the ‘ wall’ with his small frame time and time again.

So, yes Nortie, size does matter, judged on yesterday’s match, and it will matter big time against the Highlanders next Saturday.

Good luck Sharks, go for it boys!!

  • 350

    348 & 349 @ Pietman:
Agree with you on yesterday’s match Pietman, the Stormers backline was, how would Skop so eloquently have put it?, like deer in the headlights.
But for the Sharks it still started up front. We have seen this year that when their forwards dominate, they win, and win well. The Highlanders, Stormers at Kings Park and the Cheetahs last week didn’t step back and managed to stop the Sharks from building momentum and a score.
They did score 3 tries yesterday, but only the one scored by Sithole was from a beautiful backline move. The other 2 was from pressure, and although well deserved, it doesn’t happen when they don’t dominate the opposition.
I really think that Lambie’s return for these play off matches couldn’t have come at a better time. He is the one player who can really set the backline up to attack, their defense is fantastic, as we saw yesterday, but we have seen in the past years that to win the SR, you must have good defense and the ability to score tries as well.

  • 351

    Cry

Well thank you very much Stormers.

That dismal scoreline will ensure that I get well and truly knocked off the No 1 superBru spot.

Well it was nice whilst it lasted………

Fark, I was looking forward to the Cruise to The Bahamas. Wink

Have a great Sunday all readers and contributors on RT xx

  • 352

Re the (lack of) size of the stormers’ backs; I was also thinking of the article by Nortie during the match when it became clear that Tagicakcibau was the only back who could trouble the sharks.

The problem is that a team cannot play too many small players in positions 11-15 (unless their names are Cullen, Robinson and O’Conner) during the same match and the Stormers had 3.

AC is not really to blame as de Villiers, de Allende, Cobus van Wyk and Pat Howard are all injured and there were frankly no-one else available.

Anyway, well done to the Sharks , perhaps they even did the Stormers a favour in beating them so comprehensively and bringing them back to earth after the good run they had lately.

To me it is clear that the Stormers need to buy at least a decent scrumhalf, flyhalf, prop and hooker if they want to be serious contenders next season.

  • 353

Reading through the comments on RT after the game I find it strange that some shark supporters can be so naïve to “insist” that supporters of other teams MUST support their team against overseas teams and get upset if they don’t or if they dare to “chirp” the Sharks (even if it is tongue in the cheek).

I know quite a few people here in Cape Town for example who support the Sharks or Bulls and get great joy whenever the Stormers lose against ANY side in the competition… the same applies in British football where many fans of Manchester United for example find it impossible to support Liverpool even if they play against a team from the Moon.

It is just how it is… it is human nature… it does not mean that these people are unpatriotic… super rugby is anyway not really a case of SA versus NZ or Aus… it’s more a regional than a national competition .

    Go Tahs 🙂

  • 354

    353 @ robzim:
Very good post and very true. I cringe every time I open Facebook when the Stormers lose, as the messages from other team’s supporters are less than complimentary. It’s the nature of the beast

  • 355

    @ nortierd:
the worst thing is they lost all their balls AFTER a great tour lol imagine how personal they would take it when they actually choke.

  • 356

I must admit a touch of Schadenfreude after seeing them not reach their goal last night….

@ grootblousmile: Hi pal.Kind words but not merited. When
the Sharks play as they did in the 2 games preceding this one,I have long
conversations with my Uncle Jack, and behave like a hooligan.
So much for being a gentleman.
Scholar??.Good heavens no.Well read and well travelled but did
    not excel at school.
So with that out of the way, lets talk about other issues.
Watched the game this A.M.First point to be made is that with 70% of
possession,Stormers did not ever threaten Sharks tryline, and
the one try that they scored was controversial.
Was this as Norty says due to awesome defence or poor play by Stormers.

We have heard a lot these past few weeks about how Peyper would
    ensure a Sharks victory.Every time I read this,I shook my head,smiled sadly
and consoled myself by conversing with Uncle Jack. I thought that he had an very good game.
Marcel as a hybrid fetcher, carrier and defender had an excellent game..
again… and deserved M,O,T,M. award.Bissie,Macloud and the young lock
    Lewies were not far behind.
For the Stormers,Schalk was very good…again…..but not the
Schalk of old.He is my all time favourite Stormers player but is starting
to indulge in the type of skullduggery reserved for old players starting
    to go to seed.
Anyway, congratulations to Stormers on late surge.
Congratulations to my team for reaching the play offs.
Can not understand how Aplon was overlooked for Bok selection
for so many years.Lives out his faith on the field(A peace maker
    extraordinaire) and has X factor.
Biggest congratulations must go to Charo for his round of 77 before
handicap applied.Well done pal.Must have drinks soon. Will be in touch.
Welcome back Fern.At the beginning of the month the Tribune food section
wrote a column about better restaraunts around the world, and the Brittania
hotel featured as being seedy but having the best Bunny Chows.
Name has nothing to do with eating of rabbits. Was first used as a term
by indentured Hindu labourers of the caste system tribe BANIAS.
Isn,t Wiki grand?.If you ever contact our mutual friend please tell
him tha Kehla sends regards. In the top 10% insofar as rugby knowledge
    concerned on Keo.Clever too.
Just not cool to talk to Pedi in the way that he did.UFO tells me
that he wrote on various rugby blogs how terrible C.T is.
Not true. With Vancouver and Sydney, consistentlY voted
among the most beautiful cities in the world.I spent my formative,or is that
    reformative? years there.
A friend once told me that in theatrical terms,Cape Town had a perfect
    stage setting,but an inadequate cast.(JOKE)
    Miss Pedi,Miss Skop.(Old Fuckadilly himself.)
Hi Snoek.Have not spoken to you before.Welcome to a club
that is becoming more and more exclusive.Hard to believe that there are only
4 of us,Kakiesoek,Charro and the two of us.
    KIND REGARDS RYE

  • 358

    @ ryecatcher:
    cheers rye. good post.

  • 359

congratulations to the sharks for their hard fought win… definitely the better team on the day… and… based on their squad and season deserved & expected sa log winners.. now you need to go take it all the way… made it tougher for yourselves than it needed to be… but still not impossible… should take the highlanders… and if they can replicate their tour form… no reason why you can’t go and win the trophy…

said at the beginning of the season the sharks and bulls would finish ahead of the stormers… so no disappointment in our log position…

stormers and gert really need to do some urgent, honest and intense introspection… without which we’ll be cursed to watching endless repeats of “groundhog day:nth degree – next year is our year”

    @ ufo:

hi ufo if you are still around.

it is my view that weepee should always have the strongest squad in the country given the number of players in wc and boland, the good rugby schools and universities.

they should never have to import players from other regions or abroad.

    to me, the biggest weaknesses are;

    a. the administration, which seems too comfortable and contented, given the riches of talent on the doorstep
    b. the coaching staff. ac is a decent bloke but stuck in a 2007 rwc time warp. lightfoot I rate. fleck is the weakest link. when he played he never passed and seems he is coaching the same style into the weepee backs.

ps heard a funny quote over the weekend which you probably won’t appreciate….

in theatrical terms, cpt has the perfect backdrop.

just a pity about the cast.

    😉
