The FIFA Football World Cup 2014 is well underway in Brazil.
The Group Stages are already done and dusted, only 16 Teams remain…. well only 12 after this weekend!
In the knock-out stages, there are no 2nd chances, you lose and you go home. You win and you live to fight another day!
The Games start out on Monday with France vs Nigeria and thereafter Germany vs Algeria, both on Monday 30 June.
On Tuesday 1 July it is Argentina vs Switserland and Belgium vs USA.
The Quarter-finals start on 4 July 2014.
All of the games are live on TV in SA on SS3 HD, SS3 & Maximo.
In the 2nd round (top 16), there were 8 teams from the Americas, 6 from Europe and 2 from Africa. No Asian or Middle East team.
So far, we have 3 American teams and 3 European teams in the 1/4.
With Argentina vs Switzerland and Belgium vs USA to come tomorrow, one wonders if it will be a 4-4 split in the top 8.
@ Nama:60
“@Nortie
Daai Algeria doel in die laaste minuut van ekstra tyd het jou se voorspelling beduiwel.”
Ja Nama, story of my SuperBru life…..so near, but yet so far.
That’s why I hate minutes 75-85 of any rugby game as well
What can Messi do against Swizz precision?
Good save on the Arg goal line.
12 min into extra time and still Switzerland 0-0 Argentina!
Looks like could be an upset at Wimbledon with Aussie Kyrgios leading Nadal 2 sets to 1 up and 5-2 up in 4th set with Nadal to serve
Kyrgios has hit 35 aces, tall hard hitting player now serving for the match, GO KYRGIOS!
So Nadal has been beaten Kyrgios won the match with an ace! He is 144 in the world
Penalty shootout in Brazil GO SWITZERLAND!

Oeps jumped the gun then second half of extra time starting now, that’s what happens when you try to multitask 😳
Last time a player ranked no 1 in world lost to a player outside top 100 at Wimbledon was in 1992!
Nadal 6-7 (7-5) 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 3-6 Kyrgios – Nick Kyrgios will face Milos Raonic in the quarter final tomorrow, quite an achievement in his first Wimbledon
Just about last minute and Argentina score
Corner Switzerland is this last chance time for them
Arghh he heads it into bottom of left upright
3 min added time now 1 min left
Swiss keeper even up trying to score
Free kick Swiss on edge of box must be last chance now
What a d$$s, the Swiss player dived
Oh well well done Argentina 1-0 winners
79 @ MacroBull:
Hi Macro no ways, from first angle thought the Argentine got the ball but then next angle showed to me he took the Swiss players legs out from under him so was free kick
@ Bullscot:
It looked to me like the Swiss player jomped over him, then kicked his legs back exaggerating the tackle.
It was so close…. one must feel for the Swiss players. Tears all over the place.
Barcelona’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has praised Luis Suarez’s “humility” on Tuesday in apologising for biting a rival in a World Cup match.
It is clearly all part of the club setting the stage to put in a bit to buy him from Liverpool.
They will get him too.
And even the President of Uruguay became involved and called the FIFA officials ” sons of bitches” for the “fascist” act of banning Suarez.
I always thought soccer is just a game.
The right result in the end. Not a great game. I fell asleep for a while there.
It means that 7 of the 8 group winners are now in the quarters. If the trend continues, Belgium will beat the USA later tonight.
Hope you’ve gone for them on bru, Nortie. Or did you go for a USA “upset”?
@ robzim:
Not for those boys.
Wasn’t there a war once between two countries in that part of the world because of a soccer match?
@ Nama:
Apparently it once contributed to a war in South America but there were also other issues..
Crazy world we live in, lol.
Imagine Jacob Zuma calling the Sanzar judicial officer who banned Bakkies a “son of a bitch”…. 🙂
@ robzim:
Can you imagine that? I wonder what the response would be?
Do yourselves a favour, listen to and watch this!!
It farkin just gets better and better as the song continues!
Now THAT is AWESOME!
