Western Province Rugby Union president Thelo Wakefield says winning the 2014 Currie Cup is “non-negotiable” for the Capetonians.
Wakefield was left upset after the Stormers finished the Super Rugby season in a lowly 11th position – their worst effort since finishing 10th in 2009.

Wakefield, in an interview with the Cape Times, said Allister Coetzee’s position of senior professional coach is currently being evaluated by Director of Rugby Gert Smal and that a decision on whether Coetzee will again take charge of the WP Currie Cup team is yet to be made.
It was reported earlier this year that Vodacom Cup coach John Dobson would take over the Currie Cup duties.
Wakefield said they will do everything necessary to prevent a repeat of what happened in Super Rugby this year, starting with the upcoming Currie Cup.
He said the coaches must understand that winning the Currie Cup this year is “non-negotiable” and that a repeat of what happened in Super Rugby this year “will not be accepted”.
Wakefield acknowledged that injuries played a big role in hampering the Stormers’ season, but said there will be no excuses next season as the union aims to improve its attendance figures.
WP start their Currie Cup campaign against the Eastern Province Kings in Port Elizabeth on August 8.
WP lost the Currie Cup final 33-19 at home to the Sharks last year.
Ja Thelo, hou maar aan k@k praat.
You are just as much, if not more, to blame for the crap we supporters have to put up with every year.
Maybe we supporters must also hand in an ultimatum, if we don’t win the Currie Cup, you and your cronies can also take a hike with Allister
I would love to know how much “work” a guy like Wakefield gets through in a month.
@ nortierd:
I think Ac can stick around, but the proudfoot and fleck combinations must be the biggest failure in sa rugby for years.
@ MacroBull:
Not as big as the Muir/Gold combination of PDV
@ Lion4ever:
Good point. also the slapchips and whoever the bulls forwards coach is.
The silver lining is the last time Gert Smal was at the head of the Stompies the sharks ended dead last.

Slapchips was ok when you were winning SR trophies and the backline was scoring heaps of tries.
@ nortierd:
was he there? im refering more to the combination.
like proudfoot is a good forwards coach… but the combination between forwards and back at the stormers is comedic at times.
slapchips been at the bulls since 2008

Then you must send him a thank you note for your 2009-2010 trophies.
😀
@ nortierd:
wait I thought we never used him because all we did was skop en jaag? 😉
MacroBull wrote:
Ok, then you must include that other ex-WP player Vlok Cilliers in the thank you note.
Who do you think taught Morne to kick and Habana to chase?
Julle sou ook maar flokken nerens gewees het sonder die WP invloed nie 🙄
@ nortierd:
Waar is julle dan met julle WP invloed? 😀
@ MacroBull:
Hulle is dan almal by die Bulle
Hau!
A brief moment of complete shock and horror when I saw that picture…I thought that it was the late Telly Savalas talking to our Gert Smal…
A lot of ‘non’ words there, “not accepted”, ” non- negotiable”….he sounds like a minister of correctional services addressing the parole board.
@ Pietman:
All talk and no action
@ nortierd:
Ek wonder wat is in daai bottel voor hom, dalk van daai Percy Sonn Juice.
@ Pietman:
Ha ha
Karate water
@ nortierd:
darem is Gert “75-14” Smal weer terug
@ MacroBull:
Ons is maar tog te dankbaar dat Gert terug is.
As Dobson die CC span kan kry sal ons nog blyer wees
They’ll need a forklift to get him out of Newlands.
