John Smit & Tera Mtembu

The Sharks are delighted to announce the appointment of talented loose-forward Tera Mtembu as captain of the Cell C Sharks for Absa Currie Cup 2014.

Having come through The Sharks Academy ranks, this dedicated, free-spirited and hard-working youngster has always displayed leadership qualities and is a well-liked and respected member of the squad.

These commendable attributes contributed to him being entrusted with the captaincy armband, whenever he was not on senior duty, during this year’s Vodacom Cup campaign.

Sharks Media Release

Tera made his debut for the Cell C Sharks in 2012 in both the Vodacom Super Rugby and the Absa Currie Cup tournaments and whenever opportunities presented themselves to play for the senior team he has shown that he has the passion and x-factor to succeed at the highest level.

Confirming his decision to appoint Tera as captain, the Cell C Sharks Director of Rugby, Jake White stated: “Tera is a talented player and I have great faith in his ability.”

“My hope is that he embraces this leadership role and gains valuable experience as the tournament progresses, which will assist us in grooming him to take the next step into becoming a more consistent Super Rugby player, who can eventually stake a claim for international honours.”

“Tera is an outstanding and intelligent player with a bright future ahead of him. He will do a fantastic job and I look forward to working with him during the Absa Currie Cup campaign”, said Absa Currie Cup head coach, Brad Macleod-Henderson.

The Sharks CEO, John Smit added: “I am delighted that Tera has been handed the captaincy for the Absa Currie Cup tournament. I believe that he has the talent and perseverance to become a great player.”

“He becomes the 72nd player to be given the honour of captaining a Cell C Sharks team and more impressively for him, the first black player to do so.”

“This is an incredible achievement for a gifted player who has many years of rugby ahead of him and this responsibility will certainly motivate him to strive for greater heights in his career.”

Commenting on his appointment, Tera Mtembu said: “It is a great honour and privilege to be entrusted with the responsibility of leading a world-renowned team such as the Cell C Sharks. I thank our CEO, Director of Rugby and the rest of our coaching staff for believing in me and for affording me this opportunity.”

“I look forward to the challenge ahead and know that I will have the support and backing of our coaching staff, younger players and the senior group of players in our squad. As a team we will work together to ensure that we reach the goals we set-out for ourselves in this year’s competition.”

Remarking on Tera’s appointment, former Natal captain, Gary Teichmann stated: “On the rare occasion that I have interacted with Tera, I have been impressed with his confidence and approach to life and this will certainly stand him in good stead as a leader.”

“I wish him well on his appointment and the campaign ahead.”

The Sharks wish Tera Mtembu and the rest of the Cell C Sharks the very best for Absa Currie Cup 2014.

    LOL

This is either a master stroke by Jake White, or it will be a complete shambles. He made a wise pick when he selected John Smit to the Bok captain. Will this be the same? Only time will tell.

I don’t think this is a TERAble decision at all!

At least now we have 4, Charo, Rye and Snoek who didn’t run away after the loss to the Stormers and yourself.

    @ Sazito:

you will soon find that there is an enormous amount of jealousy amongst non-sharks supporters on this blog.

often they resort to extremely childish digs, trying to hide their own inferiority complexes.

most of the other sharks boys got pissed off.

but, my solution is to have the odd rant, vloek them stupid and point out the inadequacies of their useless unions.

    have fun 😉

In deciding on a suitable captain, you must be certain that the player will start every game.

With all the Bok players away on duty and a further 2 potential captains leaving the Sharks, this appointment is a very very good one.

He is clearly good enough and will start every game. Time will tell if he is a good captain though.

    Good one Sharks.

Always make sure that you take the dark Captain Morgan rum.

Spiced Gold is for tarts and poofters!

Drink for effect, not for pleasure.

Henry James Morgan has never failed in his endeavours yet!

    @ Scrumdown:
Nah, if its effect youre looking for, real men drink Red Heart.
    That’s shits crazy man.

  • 13

Can’t see a bigger farce than the Sharks’ performance at the Semi Final?
So bringing another quota token would make a little difference if any?
    🙁

  • 14

Farkit, you guys are talking like some PF Sammajoors and some other Onderoffisiere now!

Jeez, I remember how those guys used to put away the Squadron and Red Heart Rum…

I cannot take the taste of rum, any rum…

    16 @ Hondo:
Very out of character, also still waiting for all the regular excuses, but too be fair, he already got his excuses in before the game

    Ha ha, hello there Rye.
It’s a title of one of the Two and a Half Men episodes…..something to do with those live shows in the east involving a bride and a donkey, hence, the burro part. 😆
Alan also didn’t get any joy, similar to the Sharks 😉

Speaking of snorting stallions good to see Rye back on the Viagra.
