Ever wondered what it would be like to cross rugby spectating with Gold Reef City? No? Well neither has anyone else, until Samsung Australia came up with an innovative an novel new way of watching rugby.
Samsung Electronics Australia will launch the SlideLiner, an exciting Samsung innovation to give Australian Rugby fans a money-can’t-buy seat between the grandstand and the pitch during three matches of the 2014 Rugby Championship.
The Samsung SlideLiner is a comfortable, four person ‘couch’ that will sit on tracks beside the pitch, following the action along the field of play as the Qantas Wallabies take on the All Blacks and Springboks in The Castrol Edge Rugby Championship 2014.
The seats are the closest that fans can get to the on-field action with the SlideLiner moving along the pitch to follow the game in real time. With a maximum speed of 20km per hour and an 80 metre track, the SlideLiner can travel with views from try-line to try-line so its occupants don’t have to miss a moment of the action.
The Samsung SlideLiner is designed for comfortable viewing, featuring custom racing-style seats. It will also be equipped with Samsung technology so winners can share their experience via social media. Each person will have access to an internet-enabled Samsung tablet and cameras attached to the seats so that they can capture action shots during the game or take a selfie as they slide down the line.
To win a seat on the SlideLiner, Samsung will launch a national competition for three individuals to win a spot for themselves and three friends on the SlideLiner during three Rugby matches. One major prize winner will be drawn for each of these three Rugby matches:
- Wallabies vs All Blacks at ANZ Stadium, Sydney, Saturday 16 August 2014
- Wallabies vs Springboks, Patersons Stadium, Perth, Saturday 6 September 2014
- Wallabies vs All Blacks, Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, Saturday 18 October 2014
Nathan Sharpe, former Wallabies Captain and Samsung Ambassador, said: “The SlideLiner is unlike anything you’ve seen before in a stadium to watch live sport. I’ve seen some crazy things at venues during my career, but nothing like the Samsung SlideLiner.
“There’s also no comparison to being on the field and feeling the energy and excitement of a stadium full of Aussie Rugby fans. The SlideLiner is as close as any Wallabies supporter can get to the pitch during a world-class match. It’s definitely the very best seat in the house!”
Arno Lenior, Chief Marketing Officer, Samsung said: “Samsung’s Curved UHD LED2 televisions deliver incredible picture quality and an immersive viewing experience. We created the SlideLiner so that passionate rugby fans can be immersed in all the on-field action. Samsung is proud to be a sponsor of the Wallabies and to be able to continue to innovate and create amazing experiences for our customers.”
John Nicholl, General Manager Commercial and Marketing, ARU said: “The Samsung SlideLiner is an incredibly innovative sponsorship leverage campaign that will generate excitement and drive Rugby fans to get involved in this terrific promotion. Samsung is at the forefront of driving unique customer experiences through their product range and now is bringing that innovative thinking to action with an incredible match experience for some lucky Wallaby fans.”

20kph, apparently that’s as fast as Folau, this could be one AWESOME ride and way to watch rugby.
How fast do the Ball Boys have to be to get out of the way?
Looks like there is plenty of room for my can of XXXX and chips. But this could be messy.
Thank goodness it’s reserved for Wallaby supporters, can you just imagine being seated between Bakkies & Skopdiekan?
