Eben Etzebeth

Stormers lock Eben Etzebeth will not feature in this year’s Super Rugby tournament after suffering another injury.

The Springbok lock has been sidelined with an ankle injury since late last year, but was looking forward to returning to action during the latter rounds of Super Rugby.

However, an official injury report released by the Stormers on Monday revealed another injury to Etzebeth.

He has a broken toe, which will keep him out of action for another 2-3 weeks.

The Stormers tackle the Bulls at Newlands this weekend, before ending their campaign at home against the Sharks the following week.

The full Stormers injury report released on Monday:

  • Forward Deon Fourie (concussion), hooker Tiaan Liebenberg (neck), scrumhalf Louis Schreuder (broken thumb), centre Juan de Jongh (pneumonia), wing Kobus van Wyk (wrist) and fullback Gio Aplon (elbow) are all back at full training and will be considered for selection against the Bulls.
  • Lock Eben Etzebeth (broken toe) will not play in the 2014 Vodacom Super Rugby competition after suffering his new injury – a broken toe which will keep him out of action for another two/three weeks.
  • Prop Brok Harris (AC Joint) has undergone surgery and will be out of action until late August.
  • Hooker Scarra Ntubeni (broken foot) will be available for the first round of the 2014 Currie Cup competition.
  • Prop Oli Kebble (ankle – syndesmosis) is due back in late August/early September.
  • Centres Damian de Allende and Jean de Villiers (both knee injuries) are still out for another four weeks.
  • Prop Frans Malherbe (concussion) is making good progress after showing concussion symptoms for some time. He won’t feature in the 2014 Super Rugby competition again but should be good to go for the Absa Currie Cup competition.
  • Prop Steven Kitshoff (knee and ankle injuries) will not play rugby again in 2014.

Stop going back to old players, Eben and PSDT is te future! Conceited

  • 2

Eben and Pieter-steph are the future IF they are fit to play. Victor plays because he is fit. Simple.

    @ dWeePer:
Matfield’S work rate is about a 1/3 of Etzbeth and SPDT (when match fit), although the reason why the two young star locks got injured are possibly related to what they took at the early stage of their careers?

    @ Hondo:
eben and psdt make 45-60 tackles a game?

  • 5

make it 30, they each make about 30 tackles a game?

    2 @ dWeePer:
IF fit and IF not injured does not buy the whiskey or win the games.. or play the rugby, for that matter!

IF or WHEN does not cut it!

IF youngsters like Eben Etzebeth, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Johan Goosen, Arno Botha and a few others do not sort their frail freegin bodies out, then give me a Matfield or a Bakkies or a Flip or a Lood de Jager any day!

South Africa is blessed with world class locks… and 6 or 7 of the SA locks will walk into any other international side, including the All Blacks… and that includes Matfield, Bakkies & Flip.

    This from Sharksworld…

I think he meant Francious Steyn more like it…

I am so glad that the Sharks don’t have Goosen in our squad, this guy is a drama queen of note, ever since he was bust for roids as a school boy he has been controversial .
Yet he is touted as the golden boy and given chance after chance,I think most of his injuries happen in his head. You can have all the talent in the world but if you don’t have the confidence to exploit it it is useless. When you contrast Goosen with Lambie or Pollard there is no contest. Both of them took their opportunity and excelled, unlike this over hyped prima donna.
