Robbie Fruean is set to return for the Chiefs’ must-win battle with the Highlanders after recovering from an astounding three heart surgeries.

The 25-year old has seen some action in the past few weeks playing local club rugby after fearing that he may never return to the sport at all.

“It’ll be awesome, the past couple of weeks I’ve been playing a bit of club rugby,” said the block-busting centre.

“Man, I’ve really been getting emotional before those games, and I just really can’t wait to see what I’m going to feel before this game.”

Fruean, who last played for the Chiefs in March had to have an operation for an irregular heartbeat, says he’s happy with how his body has recovered.

“Yeah, it’s good. my hearts good, everything’s been going well, these past couple of months we’ve really put it to the test in regards to training,” the centre added.

His comeback has created a potential dream confrontation with the All Blacks newest star Malaki Fekitoa.

“He’s been playing awesome and credit to him for getting into the All Blacks and things like that, it’ll be cool just to have a game where I can test myself against the best,” Freuan concluded.

Chiefs coach Dave Rennie has been impressed with Fruean’s return.

“Oh, it’s phenomenal, his attitude’s brilliant, you know he’s really pushed himself, he’s been smart around medical advice.”
