    @ nortierd:

This may already have been said many times, but the All Blacks look vulnerable this year.

Couple that with the psychological effect of the Sharks beating them 2 out 2 times at home and you have an opportunity to pick up wins against them this 4 nations.

  • 454

    @SB
Similar to their SR sides, they always tend to start slowly.
They will be at their best against us, I have no doubt about that, I suppose they were slightly complacent yesterday, the same way we will be against the Welsh, and especially against the Scots.

It would be great if HM can get that monkey off his back by beating the AB’s this year

  • 455

    @SB

It’s a pity we don’t get to face them in their first test of the season
    😀

  • 456

I dunno, their SR sides have been woefully inconsistent this season as well, I think that if we can tighten up on some of the mistakes that we are making we have a decent shot.

Some players were off form in a big way yesterday, none the least Morne and Frans Steyn IMO. They have some work to do if they are to make a difference this year.

Pat Cilliers should be in the Bok team, he looked good yesterday, a lot better than Jannie IMO.

Schalk’s distribution is looking excellent and you wouldn’t have said that a couple of seasons ago, he looks a different player. I look forward to seeing more of him.

Frans was largely absent yesterday, I just don’t think he is a great 12. 15 or 10 (in a pinch), but not 12.

  • 457

On a different note is wasvery worrying to see JDV on crutches yesterday. He is a long way off being fit and Matfield is not in the same league as far as a Springbok leader is concerned.

I would also look froward to the return of Eben. His combo with Flip last year was a very good one, in spite of my initial reservations. With Alberts we have 3 very solid primary line out options, without considering Duanne at the back who is also a decent line out jumper.

The worrying thing is, even when inconsistent, their SR sides are far better placed than ours, so I’m not completely sure it will affect their national side so much, the same way as ours.

Ok, the bulk of our side is not playing SR, so it’s comparing apples with oranges.

Frans and the Shark forwards are probably tired from being overplayed, thought he was ok on defense yesterday. We know he isn’t a player who will be a catalyst for attack, but between him and JPP they were ok on defense. To be fair, Ranger and Olivier can’t be called a settled combination, the true test will be against this Australian backline

  • 459

    How good was Bakkies?

    Welcome back big guy

I thought big Vic’s leadership was very good.

    Cool calm collected.

    😆

Playing for 65 minutes against a disinterested opposition, the score could have been a 100 and the World XV wouldn’t care less 😉

    Come on Nortjie,
The on line betting houses didn’t even post nor accepted any odds on the match, the margin made no difference to anyone, it was a non event where the result had been known long in advance 😉
Like Chavanga’s 6 tries against Uruguay in that 134 point game, running up the score is not a rugby tradition.
No player got injured, no blood bin, just to show you the ‘intensity’
    😉

    @ gunther:
Bakkies has still got it for sure. He will play a fair bit this year I’m sure.

  • 463

Fransie had a big fark up, but other than than he did everything asked of him and more, is all this animosity still directed towards to him and JPP because JDJ was not in the side? Fair question.

  • 464

    @ MacroBok:
meant to say Fransie had a big fark up when he missed kicking the ball on the ground at the start of the match.

Even Kolisi would have looked good yesterday, let alone Bakkie with a great try against James O’Connor 🙂
Matfield is visibly geriatric now, other than pestering the Ref he did very little elsewhere.

  • 466

    @ Hondo:

Matfield put in some great cover tackles and in supreme in the lineout.

Go back to ploughing mielies domkop.

  • 467

    @ MacroBok:
I dunno. I wouldn’t know. Fransie and Juan don’t play in the same position, so the question isn’t as fair as you may suggest.

The JPP/Juan comparison is valid though, and I would personally have picked Juan. It’s not a matter of major concern for me though, but I would love to know what Meyer’s thinking was, he may have a great reason, who knows. If he wanted to “experiment” in any match this would be the one to do it in.

Fransie for me is over rated at 12, and I didn’t see him for most of the match, until that really good defensive tackle late in the 2nd half I had forgotten that he was in the team. Hence my comments.

Excellent players, but what I mean is, they are not a settled combination like a Smith and Nonu.
Or do they p,ay together for a French club?

  • 469

    @ nortierd:
They both play for Montpellier in France.

  • 470

    hello all!
I couldn’t watch the game, would love to see it though! Perhaps on YouTube later?
But tell me, how was our front row?
i read in the news that DocJan wasn’t quite up to it, what’s your take on our Shark macho men in the front line ?

  • 471

On the Victor issue, he looked fine, he was as good as he needed to be, the real test will come as the season goes on. For now he’s the best no 5 and Captain that we have fit and available.

  • 472

    @Pietman
    Middag se
Thought you would be pleased to know old Stevie boy is out for the season, shame, Brumbiesboy must be taking it hard. 😆

Our front row has looked tired since the Stormers game, White has played them every game, so we sort of expected this, same with Alberts, he was also a passenger yesterday.

die sharks macho men is op gespeel maar gutro is n totale spent force hoort nie meer in n bok trui nie

    @Pietman
The worrying thing for me is how the Du Plessis brothers start getting naafgat when things don’t go their way. It’s almost as if it’s their God given right to be dominating, and when they don’t or get dominated, the suurgat expressions and off the ball incidents start happening.
Bismarck should never be Bok captain, he can’t keep his emotions in check on the field and his body language and facial expressions speak volumes. Jannie, well, I still believe the main reason he isn’t playing for Koekenaap’s C team is because of the fact that Bissie has a clause in his contract, if I play, boetie must play

Stem saam. Apart from one or two really good seasons I haven’t been all that impressed with Gurthro. We have a few really talented loose-heads coming through we really don’t need him, and haven’t for some time.

  • 479

    @ Stormersboy:

And you’re basing that on the first game of the season and the Sharks beating the Crusaders, we are now vulnerable and you have the wood on us mentally. The same stuff is written every year, 4 years out of 5 it’s completely wrong.

  • 480

What you’d be better to do is beat us home and away for 3 or 4 seasons straight, top the rankings for 3 seasons or so ( not five minutes) and then start talking about who is or isn’t vulnerable.
