There surely was more to that than JUST being the ‘crowning moments is being the center of the match’
I based my wager on it, Wales surprised me though not so much with their rugby but with the fighting spirit they demonstrated despite knowing in advance what every betting house on the internet already knew?
As julle ouens wil praat oor losskakels, kyk hierdie!
Tobias vs Porta, 1984, Springbokke teen Jaguars op Nuweland.
Interessante ander spelers daar, soos Nick Mallett.
n Losskakel met beter hande as Tobias of Porta moet nog gebore word…

Wilko played behind a losing Eng pack as well or do you want to tell me that the Boks were never able to dominate their pack while he was playing?
Same with Carter. There were occasions when the Boks had the beating of the AB up front by Carter saved their arses with great general play.
Cooper didn’t not just play for the Reds in 2012. He also played for the Aussies who, as you know, don’t have a pack that will dominate the opposition, especially SA or NZ. Yet he was able to perform very well.
Why can’t Morne do it under similar circumstances?

Very good indeed, performed all his tasks incld defence and scored tries with sure hands
But don’t ask me about JPP’s heroics, I am not going to take that bait!
🙂 🙂
@ Pietman:
Het julle geweet dat Danie Gerber ook die Bokke se stelskopper pale toe was?
Luister oorle Skip Hendersohn se kommentaar.
@ Nama:
look jan has been good enough imo. yes he like to put his head down but I dont see how jdv has played any differently these last two years at the stormers or for the boks?
Is different if he hits a gap and chooses not to pass with one player to beat. but usually when he takes the ball up there is no one to pass to, yesterday he also nearly took a few half gaps. he definitely deserves to be there, though I would still like benjamin there for now, serfontein has been no ben smith or nonu, but those players are already 28 and 32… dont worry about janneman. 12 run ons as reserve before his first start he is definitely not being rushed, as they know he has things to work on, and where better than under the bok management?

I like it, a sound comment
call F Styen?

Are you telling us something we don’t know?
😉
@ Nama:
I think the aussies won in 2011 tri nations? with the bulk of the reds pack?
we regularly get dominated by the kiwi forwards even though we do a lot of chest drumming before a test match. but would he helpful if you could give a few examples of flyhalves doing well behind losing packs, im not saying its impossible, but very rare.
@ MacroBok:
“…he is definitely not being rushed, as they know he has things to work on, and where better than under the bok management?”
Under Bok management, you say? Should he not work on those “things” at provincial level? Like Brussow for example, who was told that he is not enough of a ball carrier and that he needs to work on that. The Boks are no place to do your apprenticeship.
Ek het weer die replay van gister se toets gekyk, Springbokke sal VINNIG moet aandag gee aan hul dekverdediging! Kyk daai eerste drie van Jamie Roberts, hoe hol hy by Flo verby

‘Why can’t Morne do it under similar circumstances?’
Don’t make me laughing, HM and his ‘Best’ already left me exhausted 😉
Styen couldn’t even break into his French team’ starting line up, enough said?!
@ Hondo:#664
See my comment on JPP’s performance.
@ MacroBok:
Well, you said it. It is not impossible for a FH to perform well behind a losing pack. Pietman just mentioned Hugo Porta.
Fact is that Morne cannot even on a rare occasion perform well if his pack is not totally dominating.
@ Nama:
there was an article a few weeks back on willie le roux and the work that went jn by the bok management to progress his full back career while he isnt even played at full back at provincial level. rugby is a professional sport now. its not a case anymore of reserves going along to carry tacklebags.
What is being worked on at provincial level? we have 4 teams at the wrong end of the super rugby table and our best team is playing complrtely uninspiring rugby. and then people find it extremely easy to blame the bok management at the lack of skills ey?
@ Pietman:
Dit was a.g.v. ‘n baie goeie skrum deur Wallis. Flo is “gedwing” om gebind te bly en dit het die spasie geskep vir Wallis om daai drie te druk.
@ Nama:
porta was well before my time but as I recall the argentinians were reknowned for their scrumming ability?
On the positive note, HM made a stride to close the gap on AC and PdV with his bombastic, baffling statements 😀
IF ONLY he could emulate PdV’s 1st two years record against the ABs (4:2) instead of posting proudly a 0:4, that might be real nice
😉
I project him to produce a 2:6 though or even a 1:7 by the end of his tenure
@ MacroBok:
I can accept that.
And yes, I saw an article by Brendan Venter alluding to the work the Bok manament have been doing. I have no problem with the Bok management working with individual players throughout the year. I think that that is the right approach.
I just hope that when another coach comes along and he nominates and treats certain players, that YOU don’t necessarily like, the same way that HM is perceived to treat players like Jan and Pollard, that you will be on his side as well.

he must had stepped on honey before the test?
😆
one of the drawbacks of this otherwise a rather good, fast responding website is the difficulty to track back comments, the architecture otherwise here is much superior to Keo’s
@ Nama:
who would you play at flyhalf amd inside center vs scotland?
@ MacroBok:
The bajada scrum was what they have but you know that forward play is about much more than that. There were line outs, rucks, mauls and fighting as well.
…especially considering it would he from outside the squad
@ Nama:
haha well I think those argies were as tough as nails and everyone cared as much about lineouts in those days as the players felt about their hair.
@ MacroBok:
I’ve already stated that Janneman is there by default.
At FH it is obvious that HM would prefer Goosen, if he is available. Personally I believe that Elgar Watts outplayed Goosen in the Cheetah jersey in 2014.
Boshoff had a good start to the season but fizzled out. Only thing he still has going for him is his kicking for poles.
Pollard has not prove himself yet at senior level at FH.
Pinaar hada little cameo at FH last week and did well imo.
So, all in all, I would go with Pienaar at FH for the game against Scotland.
@ Nama:
the huge difference between pollard and jan is pollard already has made a big impact on super rugby before being named player of the year
@ MacroBok:

A complete footballer which Willie surely is, can play anywhere (just not on defence), no need for special preparations
Case in Point Johan Heunisditto Percy, Fran Styen, Stephen Tereblanch and Justin Swart all played at FB, wing and Centre, somae at FH too)
(don’t mention JPP please 🙁 )
@ Nama:
do you know if fdp is playing?
@ Nama:
Ek se dit nou al vir 100 jaar lank, Pienaar is n #10, nie #9 nie, hy het te min tyd op skrummie….hy was losskakel by Grey Kollege en het Morne die eerste jaar uit Cravens gehou.

no I like willie. the funny thing is before he got picked there was a large community that complained “oh HM will never pick him he only picks safe players not to lose” and when willie got selected and made a few mistakes a lot of that same community complained that willie is not good enough lol
he has been exceptional and we would be in trouble without him but so would aus without folau (though to a slightly lesser degree)
