Well done to Bokke on this BIG win, have to consider the opposition but it will still be a good confidence booster ahead of the Rugby Championship.
Felt strangely flat when score the result which is odd as still was hoping for the Boks to win. Guess as when they are not playing the Boks would always want Scotland to win and so many of the team today play for the club I support here Glasgow Warriors it was disappointing to see the hammering that must have been dished out, has been a very long season for them and not too much break after this tour so hoping not too many injuries. Followed the game on radio on and off till halftime and after the rapid Springbok start it seemed Scotland had done well to only be 13 behind at halftime. Sounds like the Boks were in rampant form today anyway but once I saw that Scotland were down to 14 for a time with Swinson carded it kind of made a bit more sense of the second half rout, it was always going to be hard going with all players on the field let alone being a tight forward down.

should be when saw not score the result
308 @ grootblousmile:
Is that all GBS, surprised only 10? It would not be much of an exaggeration to say Scotland were probably missing about double that amount. Could possibly come up with close to 10 loose forwards alone who weren’t there for Scotland today.

The Front row was pretty much Scotland’s A
The rest a mix of B & C
And then the referee also did his bit to improve his meager income? they all do in the June Tests
I remember a Jocks team that lost some 11 years ago when Nate Hines failed to dot down the ball under the poles at the 80st minute!
was a touch and go
425 @ Hondo:
Hi Hondo yeah the front row was potentially an A team one, depending on form, touch and go between Dickenson and Ryan Grant about first choice, Ford should be the best but he has been outplayed in recent seasons by the likes of Dougie Hall and Scot Lawson. On the bench though you were looking at no loosehead and the hooker was at best 5th choice. Back three was also pretty much first choice, although again you could argue about Seymour and Visser as to who is the first choice, Seymour for me has been the best wing in Scotland this season while Visser has been coming back from injury, but when he is in top form then that is one position of luxury for Scotland as they are both top wings in my opinion. Starting number 8 has only played 36 min professional rugby before yesterday so not really valid to place in pecking order but if you had to then possibly at a push the 5th in line, and so we could go on…
Morning all RTs!
Looking back on yesterday in the glaring daylight of a “Sunday morning coming down”, I suggest we don’t carried away by this win just yet.
It was nothing more than an international training session for the Springboks really, come to think of it, in front of a very enthusiastic and emotive home crowd…..
The All Blacks playing at home would probably have put 100 or more past these Jocks, in my opinion.

Morning Pietman
It’s true that it wasn’t a taxing game, but we only got to see that in hindsight. To gauge the expectation we can look at the SuperBru picks where 99% of the 50 000 people taking part picked the Boks, but with an average win margin of 15 points.
So either, most underestimated the Boks and overestimated the Scots, or we are not really used to these huge wins as we were in say the 1990’s where we expected the Boks to smash the home nations every time they played.
To put 50 points past a team also in the top 10 doesn’t happen that often anymore, and even though it wasn’t a “full strength” Scottish side, it was also far from a full strength Bok side.
Maybe we mustn’t access what the two teams did and rather look at what certain individuals managed and what it might do for their careers?
Pollard showed that he is here for the long run and that he is the real deal.
We saw that between FdP and the rest of HM’s scrummies there is a huge chasm, and that is worrying.
Coenie needs a lot of work before he can compete at that level.
Lood showed that we are well set in the lock department.
Schalla is back and showed that he is eager to win his place back, most tackles on the day with 20.
Marcell stepped up very well and had a great game.
Mvovo deservedly got a start and grabbed it with both hands.
The problem I have with the Boks, and this is only my opinion, is that when we start like a house on fire and score quick tries almost from kickoff, is that we start losing respect for the game and think it’s too easy and that the tries will just continue to come without doing the basics and putting in the hard yards.
We saw it yesterday and we saw it against Wales in the 1st test. The latter part of the first half usually ends in shambles and the players get white line fever and every body wants to score when they get their hands on the ball.
I’m just worried about some of the cameo caps HM dished out in the last 5 minutes. How many of those players will ever play for the Boks again and are in long term plans?
I’m thinking of someone like Boshoff, will he play again? We know Morne is first choice, Lambie, Goosen and now Pollard are above him, so maybe he could have played abroad and qualified for another country, but a couple of minutes in the Bok jersey and he can’t.
@ Pietman:
I agree that we need to keep things in perspective, but I disagree with thetiment that whenever we win well that “the all blacks would have put 100 points on them”
@ nortierd:
Yes those players might never play for the boks again, but all things considered, they got their chances because of injuries, who says injuries wont happen again?
with the sentiment*
Two different camps on the internet after the game… one half saing hougaard was excellent, the other half saying he was very poor
I thought he was excellent, yes he made one or 2 errors, but he made 50 good plays, what more can you ask for?… his kicking was not tested though
though the ones saying he was very poor have they own agenda as they want to push reinach and de klerk in the team
@ MacroBull:
I understand that some guys were brought into the 23 due to injuries, but I’m not convinced that a 5 minute run on is necessarily always the best thing for a player.
Will that guy go on and have a long career with the Boks, or could he have had a long career with a different country?
Shaun Sowerby is one such an example, got 1 test cap for the Boks, but had a huge career in France where he probably would have had 50 plus caps for the French had he qualified there.
Maybe the IRB must just change the ruling that after a certain amount of caps you may not qualify for another country, say 3 or 5 caps.
I honestly don’t see Boshoff as a potential Bok player in the future, he isn’t better than Pollard and Lambie and we have Morne and Goosen also above him in the pecking order.
Regarding Hougaard, he wasn’t bad, but it’s a worry that FdP is still head and shoulders above any other nr 9. I think Reinach could have benefitted from being included in the group, but his absence is obviously due to the fact that Heyneke doesn’t rate him as highly as the Shark supporters do and lucky for us HM is the coach, not the bloggers on Rugby365 and Sharksworld
@ nortierd:
@ MacroBull:
I hear you boys, and can’t find much disagreement with what you are saying.
But I do agree 100% that it was a great show of young Bok talent being unearthed!
I mean, who knew about Lood and Oupa a year ago. And how poor was Pollard’s kicking against England in the final last year?
The Varsity Cup is a breeding ground, for sure, and one of our prime tournaments to discover these players who would otherwise be simmering under the surface.
And Vlok Cilliers did one hell of a resuscitating job on Pollard….maybe Gert Smal knows something we don’ , by luring Vlokkie back to WP. Don’t be surprised if Coleman all of a sudden pops up as a flyhalf of note under Vlok!
@ nortierd:
“….. lucky for us HM is the coach, not the bloggers on Rugby365 and Sharksworld.”
@ nortierd:
Dunno about Hougie, he is a better wing than scrummie imo.
His passing is way to slow, especially to his right, always needs two steps to get momentum behind his pass. Reinach much sharper in that department, I think, or Piet van Zyl.
@ nortierd:
Hindsight is pretty easy, and we have no garantee that young lpayers ile eben, etsebeth, pollard, lewies, lood etc will leave the country in the next few years… Goosen is already gone, and the policy might change on overseas players next year.
boshoff could have left for ireland next year to play for them when he is 29 years old… but any coach cant have that in consideration when they select a team, surely?
“is there enough black representation? is there players that fits the gameplan? is there players that might not play for the springboks ever again who could possibly leave the country next year in a bid to qualify in 3 years to play for that country later in their career?
Will be a long winded selection policy.
@ Pietman:
Hougaardat wing has been atrocious this year and has been a hug weak link as he continuously misses tackles… he has been shockng there.
@ nortierd:
If Meyer picked Sias, or kockott for one test… now that would be a dick move
@ Pietman:
No arguments from me there Pietman, I also think he is more suited at wing, or at least a couple of years ago he was.
Ever since he got it in his head that he must be the heir apparent to FdP, his form has taken a serious dive.
Reinach is also the form nr 9 in SR to me, but he is playing behind arguably the best set of forwards in the competition.
@ Pietman:
was his passing really that slow yesterday? I cant believe
@ MacroBull:
Heyneke has known for more than a year what his World Cup team will look like, the guy doesn’t select on a whim and does his planning properly.
We all have a fairly good idea of what the World Cup squad will look like as well, and I guarantee you Boshoff won’t be there, just to use one example.
So, unless Ackerman miraculously becomes the next Bok coach, the guy will end his international career on 1 cap comprising of 10 odd minutes
MacroBull wrote:
Not yesterday, no one had a game where they could be rated less than 6/10
The score line suggests that we were all over them, but his SR form is not up there with the better scrum halves.
He is faster than Pienaar at least 😀
@ nortierd:
“Reinach is also the form nr 9 in SR to me, but he is playing behind arguably the best set of forwards in the competition.”
I think yesterday’s forwards were better than the Sharks pack. But you and Jake may differ, of course
@ nortierd:
Unless the selection policy changes and either pollard or lambie, he only only local flyhalves are injured.
Yes, it was strange those players only got ten minutes. but is it that big a deal? Meyer has selected a few players that were not in favour, do you still believe jeandre kruger is still ahead of lewies?
@ Pietman:
In the first part of the SR they were by far the strongest pack, that’s how they won most of their games.
Ever since Lambie got injured their backline is only there for ornamental reasons, but at the moment they have fallen behind due to Jake’s insistence of not resting and rotating certain players.
We all knew this was coming, the test matches and then straight back into SR.
At least now when the fall at the final hurdle the groupies can add fatigue and Heyneke not seeing the big SR picture to their ever growing list of excuses why the best team in the world has never won a SR tournament.
@ nortierd:
Hougaard has been terrible on the wing this year, and has cost the bulls dearly on a few occasions, if he can’t make the team at 9, he shouldn’t make it at all
@ nortierd:
I would gain a lot of respect for Jacob, if he sends a “second string” team to bloem
@ MacroBull:
Neither Juandre or Lewies is in the picture to be honest.
Victor, Bakkies, Eben, Flip, PSdT and Lood are the 1st six locks on his list.
only way the sharks will win this year is if they rest their springboks or the bloem game.
