    @ nortierd:

I think it is fair to say that the overwhelming majority of the English nation would gladly trade the junior rugby WC and a (unlikely) win against the AB’s tomorrow for a win last night.

  • 19

    @ robzim:
Yep, the majority doesn’t grasp which game is truly important

One is often reminded about how fortunate you are… and the last few weeks has been a stark reminder and wake-up call for me.

I have recently and twice this week been away from the office, to Ermelo in Mpumalanga specifically, to help a family and someone with a devastating situation, a very private matter, which I will say no more about…

You might ask what I’m leading up to, well this plight has touched me on a very personal level and has brought up a lot of thanks and gratefullness for the life I do indeed am able to lead.

Today, another such matter was brought to my attention, which I would like to share with all of you.

One is often confronted with schemes and fraudulant requests for money, help, donations ect…

But today I was made aware of a genuine request for help and the reason I know this is genuine, is because the request is by the cousin of my wife, a person I know, like, respect and a person I know has done everything in her life to live as normal as possible and as productive as possible.

In short, Janine is deaf… and needs a cochlear implant operation and has been approved for the operation, but the Medical Aid does not cover all her costs… she is R 120 000.00 short.

She has set up a Facebook Page, with her request, here is the Facebook URL:

    https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=302436976598537&id=300297120145856&fref=nf

    Here is what she says:

Will you help me hear you better?

Helen Keller was once asked,” If you had a choice of having your eyesight or your hearing restored, which would you rather have?” Her answer rocked the world. For she considered hearing more important for one’s happiness and social wellbeing. She said eyesight connects you to ‘things’ and hearing connects you to ‘people’.

My name is Janine. I am profoundly deaf and depend on a hearing aid (which provides only minimal hearing ability), lip-reading, and the kindness of my friends, to live in the hearing world.

I am soon to embark on an adventure – an adventure which will open my world up to more sound, more experiences, and a fuller life that will help me to better understand the world around me and to embrace more things without the fear of accepting half measures. I am going to have a cochlear implant, which will help me live a life closer to that which my hearing friends experience. It will never be able to provide me with the same hearing ability which a hearing person has, but will bring me much nearer to it.

However, although my medical aid fund will generously cover much of the cost involved with such a procedure, There will be a shortfall of about R120 000.00. My husband and I are arranging a number of fundraising initiatives to help me reach my goal, and here is where you can assist.

A donation of just ten rand (or more, or less – it’s up to you), multiplied many times, will help me to get to the point where I will be able to start this adventure. If more than the required amount is collected, any excess funds will be used to assist others in need of an implant.

If you would like to make a donation, please inbox me or send an email to veebay22@gmail.com, and I will send you a scanned copy of the Donor’s letter, which provides banking details and instructions, as well as any other information you might need. Please be careful to follow the instructions closely.

When making a donation, please send me a confirmation email, so that I can thank you.

Ek dog jy se jy le leeg in Hartenbos? Nie geweet jy werk nie!

  • 23

    @ grootblousmile:
    Why a copy of ” Donor’s letter”?
Can’t one just transfer the money to that bank account, short and sweet?

  • 24

    @ Pietman:
hehe ek wens ek kon aftree voor 30

  • 25

    23 @ Pietman:
I would not know Pieta… I suppose the donor’s letter she talks about is the one where SHE gives you the details of the bank particulars, so that a fransfer could be done.

I recon one cannot just divulge banking particulars openly on Facebook itself..

I will ask Handbriekie to find out more for us.

Janine lives in George, in the Southern Cape and works for Telkom.

    23 @ Pietman:
A donors letter is more “proof” to a stranger that it is not a scam.

If GBS didnt vouch for her then most of us would be suspicious of it being a scam. (Not saying it is)

  • 27

    @ grootblousmile:
    Ok then.
    Will mail you.

  • 28

    Kings 59 – 21

  • 29

    26 @ MacroBok:
it is NO SCAM… my wife’s been talking about her cousin’s acceptance for the operation in recent weeks… and of course today the whole family were the first ones sent this request and the first ones asked to Share the Facebook request…
