Sharks flank Jean Deysel appeared before a SANZAR judicial hearing after he received a red card during their Super Rugby match against the Crusaders in Christchurch at the weekend.
Deysel received the red card for contravening Law 10.4 (b) – Stamping or trampling.
He received his marching orders from referee Rohan Hoffman for stamping on the face of Crusaders flank Jordan Taufua in the 16th minute on the game, which the Sharks remarkably won 30-25.
The judicial officer for the hearing is Jannie Lubbe and it was held via video conference on Tuesday (11:00 SA Time).
The Hearing took place but a decision regarding appropriate punishment could not be reached.
Following almost two hours of hearing evidence and submissions, the judicial officer, Jannie Lubbe, concluded matters and will release his judgment in the next 24 hours once he has given due consideration to the facts and evidence presented during the hearing.
SANZAR said no further comment will be made until this process has been completed.
Deysel will have to wait another day to hear if he will be suspended for stamping on the face of Crusaders flank Jordan Taufua.

whose worked up? Im having a laugh at Saffas typical victim mentality.
like I said, but will repeat for you, if that was a kiwi player on a Saffa player and he only got 3 weeks there would be facebook protests and armbands flooding the market.
seems you guys dont want consistency, just a bias towards your teams and players.
cant wait for that sixth mediocre Saffa side, it should be wondrous for super rugby as a whole dont you agree?

For what it’s worh, I really think it’s an absolute travesty of justice that Deysel got such a light “sentence”.
Of late the punishments have not fitted the crime in terms of sanctions handed out in SANZAR competitions.
I think if that stamp had occured in a competition like the Heineken Cup, Deysel would have had a VERY LONG time to work on his sudoko skills.
Unfortunately, I seem to notice the name Jannie Lubbe involved whenever I see a sanction that in my opinion seems somewhat too lenient.
Play hard, but keep blatant thuggery out of the game.
If a young Mother who’s kid wanted to start Rugby saw that shyte on tv, what are the chances she would be rushing out the next day to register her kid at the local club?
Not much methinks.
Anyway, soapbox time over. Need to earn some money to pay for the DSTV so I can record the Lions getting blown away by the Force at the weekend.
What Deysel should have done was shout at the assistant ref or ref himself that he was taken out of the game by being held at the ankle. Would they have done something about that? Not even sure.
It is the perpetrators that have to be dealt with harshly as well. It is them that start this whole damn thing happening and nothing gets done to the player that is actually cheating holding a player with out the ball away from the game. This sort of thing has to stop as it is this negative play that from players that start this whole mess. It leads to the player being held back getting so damn frustrated. Once we see the players that play the man without the ball getting a ban this sort of thing will stop in its tracks. A player holding a player away from play is plain cheating there is no way it is not. Jordaan too was held back from play and nothing was done about that. Cobus had his head shoved into the ground after scoring the try and nothing was done about that either.
Anyhow the IRB has to sort this rubbish out by players taking a player out of play and make that a red card offence and a two ban offence after. That way we will see less of this sort of thing happen. Players get so damn frustrated not able to play by being held back.
I expected Jean to get a 3 week ban as he has a exemplary record. He is a clean player and has never done this thing before ever. He also apologised straight after to the player who seemed fine with it. That player also went on to play the rest of the game as it seemed not much damage had been done to him at all. Also that player stood up for Jean at the hearing as well.
For me it is a pity we lose such a huge player for us but what is done is done. We will have Jean back for the Cheetahs game and rightly so he did not deserve a longer ban because of the circumstances of being taken out of play.
Another thing the unnoticed punching at rucks and scrum times has to be punished as that too leads to players getting really angry. But going back to this I am totally against a player being taken out of play it is unfair and is cheating. It has to stop totally. IRB has to step up and have these players banned and make it a red card offence. That will most definitely stop it and we will see less players stomping or hitting another player out of frustration.
Another thing how did that Reds player who eye gouged get off totally free? It seems some can get away totally from stuff like that. 😯

Said it before, SA only deserves 3 teams in the competition based on the last 6 years’ performances.
Unfortunately my team doesn’t fall into that 3.

Yip just like old times. 😉 How you Cane? Hope well boet.
I thoroughly enjoy all you kiwi bloggers on here. Yes, we all have a different view of things but that what makes this site so great. It allows us to express our feelings about things which we must.

Actually what he should have done is kept his anger in check and left the thuggery out of the game.
If someone pokes a finger in my chest at the local pub, is it acceptable for me to wait till they come outside then kick them in the head with my steel capped safety boots.
Deysel is a professional sportsmen, not a hired thug.
@ Scrumdown:
It just sets a bad precedent now, if a player holds your leg and you stomp on his neck/face you’ll be banned for 3 week. If Deysel had broken his neck would it have been 4 weeks?
Puma, surprised at your attitude on this one I remember when Luaki high tacked a SAFFA player a few years back you went on about it for weeks and weeks how bad it was yet here you believe it’s justified.
@ Scrumdown:
the force have proven this year that expansion teams can compete, given a year or 5 in the competition.
its the arbitrary nature of decisions that I think annoys everyone
NZINCHINA wrote:
Oh, so precedents are important now?
How about the one whereby you get to retake a conversion if it is charged too early? Didn’t seem to apply to the Lions for some reason. But then they didn’t have an unbeaten record to maintain 😆
kaksioek wrote:
agree about the conversion, it was almost as bad as the 19-4 penalty count against the reds or the winning lions try that never was against the Blues.
If your refs are going to set the precedent for hometown decisions, you cant really then whinge about ones going against Saffa sides surely?
28 @ NZINCHINA:
Well he paid the ultimate price for that as Meyer dropped him right out of the Bok team and said he would never play for the Boks again while he is coach after that. So he paid the ultimate price price for being so daft there.
nga puhi wrote:
Which is why I haven’t said a word.
Any team, at any level should play the game in such a way that any “biased” ref’ is taken out of the equation.
The Lions aren’t in that league, and won’t be for a while. (Probably not in my lifetime!)
36 @ Scrumdown:
Well he has never done that sort of thing before. He was being taken out of the game. That alone should not happen either Scrumdown it is called cheating. Players get so damn frustrated by that and that is where we are seeing this sort of thing coming after. I am not saying he was right what he done but if that player never took him out the game he would not have done that at all.
@ kaksioek:
I would have loved to have been watching that Irish game with you, seeing the first one miss and you cartwheeling in your lounge only for it be cruelly taken away from you seconds later lol
Scrumdown wrote:
its unfortunately part and parcel of the whole competition, and I think why the better teams actually prepare for certain refs. there must be enough info available to form an idea of how a certain individual refs a game and the type of things they are likely to blow the whistle for..
.
refs make mistakes all game, they usually even themselves out in most cases, but it only takes one that goes against a side at an extremely crucial moment (such as the Jantjies conversion) and the focus is solely on that.
it should be a game that the players decide, but at that level what player isnt going to take any advantage they can get?
43 @ Puma:
I respect your undying, sometimes blind loyalty to your team and those that make up it’s sum.
However I can NEVER condone thuggery like that.
Rugby Union is battling worldwide to grow the sport, with schoolboy numbers decreasing in “traditional” countries year on year.
Acts like this just make it so much harder to market the sport to potential players and more importantly their parents in certain circumstances.
Enough said from me on the subject.
Good luck to your team for the rest of the competition. I fear they’ll be the only SA team in the play offs.
46 @ Scrumdown:
Well I don’t like thuggery either. However, this sort of thing comes mostly when a player is being held back from play. It totally frustrates the player. We need those players that are holding onto a player to also be sorted out. Once they give them bans or red cards for that I feel we will see less of this sort of thing happening.
Thanks for the good wishes for my team. There are still 4 very tough games to be played. I take it one game at a time. So will see where we are after we play Stormers in our last game.
Good news is we get Pat back probably for the Cheetahs game and most likely get Fred back for the Stormers game back home. Fransie is being played into the ground now and feel he is just a game away from a big injury. He needs a rest and has been a ROCK for my team without our 1st and 2nd choice flyhalves. Though Timo done well this weekend. The whole bench did and proud of the boys for not giving up in that game. A game I will remember forever. Was a huge triumph for us winning with playing most of the game with 14 men and at one stage 13 men.
Good morning everybody.
I’m urgently looking for GBS (don’t have his phone number handy unfortunately) and need to find out urgently which 5-star hotel my boys are staying at…I need to try & organise myself a new jersey and need contact details please.
P.S. I can’t use email right now.
48 @ BrumbiesBoy:
Hahahahaha. Boet I will help. Will send gbs a mail. I don’t have his number either from what I recall that is.
Okay sending him mail now to get his number for you to phone.
49 @ Puma:
Cheers mate!
Scrumdown, your Leeus have played a great brand of rugby this year regardless of any reffing controversies. Hopefully they can retain the majority of their squad for next year.
have enjoyed watching them play when I get the opportunity to see games live.
nga puhi wrote:
Going to be damned difficult without a headline sponsor.
Rest assured, the Bulls, Sharks and Stormers will be hovering around, cheque books in hand come the end of October.
Also, playing a great brand is no guarantee of success without the ability to execute.
Some degree of inexperience coupled with poor decision making have cost them dearly, but the inexperience can only be used as an excuse for so long.
That said, I give them little leeway in terms of “stepping up to the plate”. maybe I’m too harsh in my assesment, but 12 years of under achieving will do that.
50 @ BrumbiesBoy:
Okay since I could not e-mail Rudi I have sent mail to Sharks_Forever. As I know he has Rudi’s (gbs) phone number. Asked him to ask Rudi to phone you boet.
Hope I have helped a bit there….
53 @ Puma: You sure have, cheers bud!

lol I know the feeling, its been 11 years since my team did anything remotely great either 😀 (the blues) hell, we sign Benji Marshall and OUR coach, not other teams, discards players like Anscombe and Fekitoa, then prefers someone like Moli over Tuipuluto 😀
I think Ackerman has done a great job this year and there is no reason they cant continue to improve next year, although other sides will know the players better. I think theres enough reason to be optimistic about your team
54 @ BrumbiesBoy:
