He was named on the Cheetahs bench after Andries Ferreira injured his shoulder in practice on Wednesday.
It deepened the Cheetahs lock crisis, with Lood de Jager (finger) and Ligtoring Landman (calf) also sidelined.
Waltie Vermeulen and Francois Uys will now be the lock combination on Saturday.
Hilton Lobberts was not called up because he is playing for Griquas against the Pumas in Friday’s Vodacom Cup semi-final in Nelspruit.
Kick-off for Saturday’s clash at the Free State Stadium is scheduled for 17:05 SA Time.
