Springbok and Saracens hooker Schalk Brits has been shortlisted for the 2014 European Player of the Year award.
Sport24
The 32-year-old Brits, who has played five Tests for the Springboks, is one of three representatives from the English club, including Namibian flank Jacques Burger and wing Chris Ashton.
There are also two players from European champions Toulon – flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson and flank Steffon Armitage.
Wilkinson won the award last year following Toulon’s Heineken Cup success in Dublin over Clermont.
Toulon will face Saracens in the Heineken Cup final at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on 24 May.
Jaques Burger, tough as dried Namibian biltong, remember him some as playing some outstanding games for Griquas, good to see the man is making us Saffas proud over there in the mud…
1 @ Pietman:
Hello Pietman, ja he is a tackling masjien! Was man of the match in Saracens massive semi final win against Clermont, made 27 tackles in that game, to think that he had a knee injury that may have ended his career last year, hards as nails or as you said “tough as dried Namibian biltong”
