Damian de AllendeStormers backline coach Robbie Fleck believes utility back Damian de Allende is not far off from a Springbok call-up.

De Allende, 22, has been a rare shining light for the Stormers in a disastrous season which has seen them win only three of 11 games to sit bottom of the overall Super Rugby log.

The big playmaker was instrumental on the right wing against the Bulls in Pretoria last Saturday, despite the Stormers losing 28-12.

His favourite position is inside centre, where his big frame (1.92m and 103kg) can be utilised to greater effect.

Flecksaid De Allende must be very close to being included in the Springbok squad. He said De Allende was “phenomenal” in every position he’s played for them this season.

Fleck said the player’s ability to get over the advantage line, his versatility and physical presence are assets that count in his favour for Springbok selection.

The Stormers face the Western Force at Newlands on Saturday and De Allende moves back to his favourite position with Jean de Villiers failing to recover in time from a sore shoulder. Wing Kobus van Wyk is fit again, which paves the way for De Allende to play in the No 12 jersey.

Kick-off for the clash at Newlands is scheduled for 17:05 SA Time.

Overall he has had a good year, mixed in with a few fluffs, but who hasnt?

    Who will Meyer select?

Persist with Serfontein, JDv is captain with a soft spot for Fransie, Jacque Fourie could come back, Rayno Benjamin has indeed done even better than De Allende this year in my opinion. JJ does not deserve to be there though.

    and there is JDJ

Fransie really worries me, he is good then bad. He would be my reserve as he can cover most in the backline.
I have no interest to see J Fourie back in the Bok jersey, he favors his Japanese contract too much to even be playing a warm-up match.
JdV for sure pending his fitness.
Jan Serf is the person we need to invest in

The rest to me is far behind (we are talking 12 here)

forgot to add, I would bring De Allende into the group, no starting spot yet at 12 but with the poor performance of players like JP he could be used as a winger

    Fransie kanivirdieoulangsmypaasnie Steyn.

Wie have a lot of trouble in the backline I think, I hate to say it, but we don’t really hae the backline to take on the Aussies or Kiwis by playing an attacking game, the guys hang off each other too far and we will get turned over and hammered.

We might need fransie to kick those 60m kicks just to get points.
